Ask them what they think this book will be about. Encourage children to use their knowledge of the Curious George series to talk about this book. Page 6: What adventure is George about to have in this picture? Does this picture make you want to read the book it comes from? Now turn back to the beginning of the book to read about how Margret and Hans Rey wrote many books about George.

Phonics and Word Work Provide practice as needed with words and sounds, using one of the following activities: • Build Sentences Materials: index cards. Think Aloud As I read about George’s adventures, I see pictures that show me what he’s doing. On page 9 I read about how George made a big mess with bubbles. The funny picture on that page showed me what George’s adventure looked like. The picture helped me better understand what the words said.

Practice the Skill Have children share examples of pictures in other books that show what the words are describing.

Writing Prompt Read aloud the following prompt: Have children write their response, using the writing prompt on page 6. The Curious George books are very popular with children all over the world. Write about why you think children love to read about George.
