Best X-Men title going!!By MONTE M.As of right now, I think Wolverine the X-Men is the best of all the Mutant related titles. Great storytelling, and perhaps most important is the seamless balance of both lighthearted as well as somber themes. The book never gets too bogged down in gloom and doom. This is something past present X-Books have definately been guilty of. In this volume we are still dealing with the AvX storyline, but the book can be thouroughly enjoyed on its own merits. Again, this is a testament to Jason Aaron's brilliance. The same cannot be said of other titles that are AvX ties ins. In fact, the reader almost requires a complete knowledge of AvX happenings in order to enjoy these other titles (I.E. Uncanny X-Men, Avengers Academy). The art is also top notch works perfectly with the tone and atmosphere Aaron has established for this book. I will have to give the Marvel Now X-titles a little time to sink in before I can make a fair evaluation of those titles vs. Wolverine the X-Men. But i will say that the new titles have alot to live up to. Hightly recommended.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Doop Steals the ShowBy S. H. WellsCollecting: Wolverine and the X-Men #14- 18 (AvX crossover)Wolverine's school copes with the massive changes brought on by the AvX crossover and the continuing bad blood between the X-Men. Kitty Pride (one of my favorite characters) finds her self in the unenviable position of trying to run the school while half the staff is off battling the Phoenix-imbued X-Men. Fortunately the AvX crossover stays at the periphery of these issues which allows space for writer Jason Aaron's knack for storytelling to shine through: readers are treated to three memorable vignettes.First, Kitty and Colossus go on what has to be about the worst superhero date in the history of comics. Colossus, ever the bumbling romantic, takes his date for the freshest seafood on the planet. God-like powers do not lend themselves to good dinner conversation, however.Second, Kilgore walks readers through his rise to power. There is a lot of compelling father-son drama that grounds Kilgore's character's motivation. I was surprised by how interesting this story was--Kilgore went from a two-dimension 11 year old tyrant to a more complete character. I'm still not that pitting earth's most powerful superhero mutants against earth's most sadistic pre-teens is a successful plot development, but so far it is working. Finally, the heart of this graphic novel is the "Wolverine's Secret Weapon" vignette. The issues tell Doop's secret (and vital) role at the school. Artists Michael and Laura Allred beautifully render this story in a style that draws much from Doop's beginnings in the old X-Force (see X-Statix Omnibus )In summary, this collection of Wolverine and the X-Men manages to deliver three entertaining stories without getting overly bogged down by an increasingly dull crossover event. Story continues in Wolverine the X-Men by Jason Aaron - Volume 50 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Part of a larger wholeBy CustomerWolverne and the X-Men vol.4 is a part of a larger story line of A vs. X. This whole story line, while well written in many ways, is one that I found less then inspiring. The story line shows not only the continue fragmentation of the mutatant community, but of the community of heros as a whole. Wolverine and the X-Men vol. 4 falls into this ark and helps show the tragic consequences of this split. I would have hoped that in the ark the various groups would have eventually found a way to work together to meet the needs of all. But I guess fiction mirrors realtiy to much. For Avengers and X-Men fans this is still a must read. AVX tie-in! The final battle begins! The Jean Grey School for Higher Learning has seen its loyalties - and its faculty - divided by the war between the Avengers and the X-Men. But now, with the Phoenix Force corrupting Cyclops' team, Wolverine's mission becomes clear! Yet even with the fate of the Earth itself on the line, Kitty Pryde still has a school to run, and fewer teachers than ever to staff it - or protect its students. With Wolverine, Beast, Iceman, Angel and more gone, can the skeleton crew of Kitty, Doop, Toad and Husk safeguard the students when one of the Phoenix Five shows up on their doorstep? Radiant Beings: Narratives of Contamination and Mutation in Literatures of the Anthropocene Dissertation Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Kristin Michelle Ferebee Graduate Program in English The Ohio State University 2019 Dissertation Committee Dr. Thomas S. Davis, Advisor Dr. Jared Gardner Dr. Brian McHale Dr. Rebekah Sheldon 1 Copyrighted by Kristin Michelle Ferebee 2019 2 Abstract The Anthropocene era— a term put forward to differentiate the timespan in which human activity has left a geological mark on the Earth, and which is most often now applied to what J.R. McNeill labels the post-1945 “Great Acceleration”— has seen a proliferation of narratives that center around questions of radioactive, toxic, and other bodily contamination and this contamination’s potential effects. Across literature, memoir, comics, television, and film, these narratives play out the cultural anxieties of a world that is itself increasingly figured as contaminated. In this dissertation, I read examples of these narratives as suggesting that behind these anxieties lies a more central anxiety concerning the sustainability of Western liberal humanism and its foundational human figure. Without celebrating contamination, I argue that the very concept of what it means to be “contaminated” must be rethought, as representations of the contaminated body shape and shaped by a nervous policing of what counts as “human.” To this end, I offer a strategy of posthuman/ist reading that draws on new materialist approaches from the Environmental Humanities, and mobilize this strategy to highlight the ways in which narratives of contamination from Marvel Comics to memoir are already rejecting the problematic ideology of the human and envisioning what might come next.

By Lyndsey Erin Shelton Under the mentorship of Dr. Darin H. Van Tassell ABSTRACT It is a widely accepted notion that a child can only be called stupid for so long before they believe it, can only be treated in a particular way for so long before that is the only way that they know. Why is that notion never applied to how we treat, address, and present religion and the religious to children and young adults? In recent years, questions have been continuously brought up about how we portray violence, sexuality, gender, race, and many other issues in popular media directed towards young people, particularly video games.

  • Marvel Comics Avengers Chronological Appearances by Bob Wolniak
Marvel Comics Avengers Chronological Appearances By Bob Wolniak ased initially on the Bob Fronczak list from Avengers Assemble and Avengers Forever websites. But unlike Mr. B Fronczak’s list (that stops about the time of Heroes Reborn) this is NOT an attempt at a Marvel continuity (harmony of Marvel titles in time within the fictional universe), but Avengers appearances in order in approx. real world release order . I define Avengers appearances as team appearances, not individual Avengers or even in some cases where several individual Avengers are together (but eventually a judgment call has to be made on some of those instances). I have included some non-Avengers appearances since they are important to a key storyline that does tie to the Avengers, but noted if they did not have a team appearance. Blue (purple for WCA & Ultimates) indicates an Avengers title , whether ongoing or limited series. I have decided that Force Works is not strictly an Avengers title, nor is Thunderbolts, Defenders or even Vision/Scarlet Witch mini- series, although each book correlates, crosses over and frequently contains guest appearances of the Avengers as a team. In those cases, the individual issues are listed. I have also decided that individual Avengers’ ongoing or limited series books are not Avengers team appearances, so I have no interest in the tedious tracking of every Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, or Hank Pym title unless they contain a team appearance or x-over . The same applies to Avengers Spotlight (largely a Hawkeye series, with other individual appearances), Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Vision, Wonder Man, Hulk, She-Hulk, Black Panther, Quicksilver, Thunderstrike, War Machine, Black Widow, Sub-Mariner, Hercules, and other such books or limited series.
