25 Baku 2015 Newsletter, November 2013 VILLAGE

The Baku 2015 European Games Athlete’s Village is already structurally complete with 13 accommodation multi-story blocks and an NOC services centre that will be a school in legacy. The village is within walking distance of both the brand new European Games sta- dium that will host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and the National Gymnastics Arena that will host the Gymnastic events.

BEGOC has conducted an initial space in- ventory across the whole village estate and was able to conirm to the EOC Coordination Commission that the average size of a three bedroom apartment is 190m2 and that the average size of a bedroom stands at 22m2. These generous proportions are conducive to giving athletes and oicials a comfortable stay whilst they are in the Baku.

Further work has gone into an initial village masterplan to deine operational areas, catering tents, the NOC Services area, the transport mall and the welcome centre. A more detailed plan of the village together with opening and closing dates will be pre- sented to the NOCs in early 2014.

BEGOC has worked closely with the Ministry of Health on a polyclinic within the village to ofer a suitable level of medical service to athletes and oicials attending the European Games. The Ministry of Health has conirmed that in legacy mode the space that has been chosen within the Athlete’s Village will re- main a community primary care unit.
