BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Richard DuPage was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on August 10, 1908, to Richard P. and Ann DuPage. DuPage studied piano, percussion and clarinet. As a child DuPage attended school in Kansas City and then went on to study at Woodberry Forest School, Augusta Military Academy (1927), Washington and Lee University (1927-1930), and Vanderbilt University Law School (1930-1931). Through prep school and college, DuPage played music professionally. In 1930 in Nashville, Tennessee, he formed his own band, which played in various clubs and cabarets. In December 1931, he moved to New York to start a career in music arranging, and was also on the music staff at WOR Radio in New York. While working at WOR, Richard composed music for The Mysterious Traveler, Magazine Theater, Out Of The Thunder, and The Search That Never Ends. In 1933 DuPage married Florence Anderson and they had two daughters, Diane and Nancy.

DuPage was a member of various organizations, including ASCAP; Empire State Society; Sons of the American Revolution and New York Local 802.

DuPage died in Atlanta, Georgia on June 20, 1983. He was seventy-four.
