Brampton Show – Sunday 29th September I’ve had confirmation via email that we are booked for the Brampton Show in St Ives on Sunday 29th September. Setup/entry is likely to be from 8:30am based on previous years. We have the usual 2 tables, hopefully in a similar position as before.

JET FEST 2019 – North Weald On the same weekend as Brampton but it’s local and might appeal.

SMOKE ON! Join us for a thrilling end-of-season weekender at North Weald Airfield for JetFest’19, between Friday 27th and Sunday 29th September. Following a similar theme to the successful inaugural JetFest event in 2018, JetFest’19 promises to be bigger and better; we will once again have a large number of vintage jets on display, some static and some flying. The weekend’s attending aircraft will include many stalwarts of the British airshow circuit, plus a number of surprises, some not seen before in the UK and some hardly ever seen in recent years. With such an array of ex-military jets, we are sure you won’t be disappointed. Talk to the pilots and get up close to these phenomenal machines. There will be a number of open cockpit opportunities, which should please adults and children alike. Photo opportunities will be rife and happy faces will be guaranteed.

This year we are teaming up with our friends at Aero Legends, which will add a new and different vintage dimension to the JetFest’19 event. The Aero Legends crew will be conducting Spitfire flying all weekend, plus there will be opportunities for our guests to fly in Harvards and Tiger Moths (subject to availability). Further information on the Aero Legends participation, plus a number of other twists for 2019, will be released shortly.

London Engineering Model Show I’ve provisionally booked us in to the 2020 show and have received this request from the organisers. Does anyone have any models which fall under this subject? I suspect that due to the fragility of our plastic models we wouldn’t be part of the convoy but perhaps look to have something on the stand.

“At this years London Model Engineering Exhibition, we’d like to set the world record for the longest convoy of model emergency services vehicles. Perhaps some of your members have models that could be part of this??

I appreciate that you may not know your plans for the event this far in advance, however it would really help with planning if you could give us an idea of the models you have which would fall under the blue light category, such as police cars, fire engines, life boats, ambulances and military vehicles.

Can you please let me know if you have any of your members have suitable models by Friday the 20th of September?”

Forthcoming Shows in 2019/2020 Shows with highlight have been booked for us to attend. If you wish to attend any of the shows with the club stand please let me know so I can attempt to book space for the club.

Robins Ruminations

Not a lot to report from the Bellamy household, normal work, normal domestics and that’s about it. I’m sure Peter will mention the upcoming Brampton Show at the end of the month, always a good show to get to if at all possible.

The Medway Show Report. Last Sunday Kevin, Graham and I made the trek to Gillingham in Kent to attend the show held amongst the exhibits inside the Royal Engineers Museum. We arrived about ten minutes before the staff arrived to open the gates, but it worked out well as we easily got parked up while the later arrivals ended up jammed up one behind the other that must have made getting out at the end of the show “interesting”. However, we unpacked quickly and in a couple of lifts had everything inside the building. The club stand was situated in front of some sort of tracked APC, I had intended to take a photo or two and taken a note of the vehicles name but yours truly forgot to do both, what a Muppet!

Still we set-up the stand and then all wandered around for a quick look at the stands and the few traders attending before the public were allowed in. I saw a couple of interesting items but resisted manfully and took my place on the stand empty handed but still thinking maybe I should have picked up a couple of the bits I saw. Kevin’s atomic cannon and his working WW1 tank and also Graham’s figures were firm favourites with the public while I was happily doing a bit more work on my Owl, between looking for the tiny bits of etched radar aerials I kept dropping on the damn floor and table! The Owl is now at that delicate stage where with most of its aerials on, it becomes “unwise” to move it about too much. I’m looking forward to putting the paint on it soon and will then have to give it a purpose made base to enable me to take it out to shows without undue risk of bending all the aerials. I must admit to looking forward to getting this one off the desk as it were.

The show was well attended by the public and clubs which contributed to a good feeling and made the time seem to fly past. After we took turns going to lunch, we all had another wander around, which of course is fatal or at least hard on the pocket. I came back with a Mig-19 with etch parts, a Zero with no instructions, a set of Stabs aircraft decals and a couple of boxes of Japanese WWII subchasers, which I thought was an unusual but interesting subject. I’ll bring them along to the club night as usual. After the usual prize giving and speeches the show drew to a close and we packed up the stand and made our way homeward. Although the inevitable roadworks, with nobody working of course, delayed us a bit, the tunnel was pretty clear and we got through quickly. I think everybody enjoyed themselves and I would recommend the show to anybody.

My “official hat” is now on…………… Well, tonight is another round in the competition season, I hope there’s lots of models for me to enter. Good luck to all those that enter tonight.
