This year’s Rally Sunday was a busy one as we celebrated the start of the Church program year; blessed our children and their backpacks as they pre- pared for a new school year; collected all the dona- tions for Selma Street Elementary School; held an in- gathering for new ministry volunteers; hosted a Children’s Sunday School open house; and then gathered in the Parish Hall for food and fellowship. Oh – and their was a bounce house for the children, and the Dothan Ice Cream Company was on hand serving pops!

The children of Nativity had their backpacks blessed during the Rally Sunday service as they prepared to start the new school year.

After their backpacks were blessed, Father Peter had the children Each child received a stand on the Chancel steps and each child was blessed individually. special Church of the Nativity tag for their backpack. Each tag has the Epsicopal shield on one side, and the prayer for children from Page 829 of the Book of Common Prayer on the other.

During the Eucharistic Prayer, the children were invited to stand around the Altar.

The Hospitality Committee provided lunch in the Parish Hall following the Rally Sunday service. Selma Street Elementary School Along with the donations of uni- forms, school supplies and snacks that were collected during Rally Sunday, we had enough cash do- nated (between Nativity Outreach and Beer & Hymns) to provide uniforms, backpacks and supplies for seven children living at the Dothan Rescue Mission; school supplies and backpacks for six children who were registered at Selma Street the day school started; and cover the Boy Scout registra- tion fees for 30 fifth grade boys at the school.
