However, as we gain new clients, there are some very popular destinations and attractions that they have not had an opportunity to experience on our Mystery Tours. Therefore, we are updating Southwest Tour and Travel’s definition of a Mystery Tour! Going forward, a Mystery Tour is described as: A tour where your destination is always unknown to you. The itinerary includes attractions and experiences that we have never included on previous tours and popular, must-see attractions and experiences that may have been included on another tour. Our goal is to give you a little anticipated fun by not knowing your destination and providing experiences that are new, without forgetting the “must-see” attractions and experiences that the destination is known for. NEW Activity Level Guide We want to make sure every aspect of your travel is enjoyable so we have developed a new Activity Level Guide for your convenience. On each tour brochure, you’ll find the level of activity clearly marked at the bottom of the page. Use the descriptions below to see if this is the type of tour you will enjoy, and more importantly, one you will be comfortable doing. Relaxed: Leisurely paced, this interary requires a small amount of physical activity. There will be some walking to rooms, restaurants, and general points of interest. This may include an occasional flight of stairs or some steps. Easy Going: This tour requires light physical activity combined with shorter travel days. Activities may include an occasional city or nature walking tour with stopping along the way. Guests should be able to climb a set of stairs, walk up or down slight slopes and navigate some uneven terrain or cobblestone. Moderate: Guests should be prepared to walk slightly longer distances, climb stairs and tolerate periods of standing, for example on city walks, sightseeing, or ship excursions. The daily pace and timing can fluctuate significantly between longer and shorter travel days, with additional activities possibly occurring in the early morning or evening. Active: This tour will require guests to be able to walk longer distances, climb several flights of stairs and navigate steps and uneven terrain. Your itinerary will include a higher number of longer travel days with morning and/or evening activities. Very Active: This is a very much an on-the-go tour with a complete itinerary involving a full, normally daily program of travel, sightseeing, or events. This is considered our fastest and most strenuous paced tour and free time at leisure will be limited, in some cases just in evenings. SCHOOL OF HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT AND TOURISM DUBLIN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY Submitted for the degree of PhD Supervisors: Dr Bernadette Quinn and Dr Sheila Flanagan Advisory Supervisor: Dr Moya Kneafsey May 2014 ABSTRACT Drawing from literature straddling tourism, marketing, geography and anthropology, this thesis investigates how US tourists consume and thereby make sense of Ireland as a place through practicing photography as part of ‘being a tourist’. The constructivist approach to this research facilitated an exchange of ideas between the researcher and the participants. This exchange between the researcher and the participants, in which knowledge is not discovered, but rather created, informs the hermeneutically-situated methodologies sometimes used by constructivists. The thesis, therefore, employs a suite of participant-focused, hermeneutically-situated methodologies, including in-depth interviews and focus groups to produce a phenomenographical account of how the participants made sense of Ireland as a place.

    NORTHERN IRELAND HERITAGE GARDENS TRUST OCCASIONAL PAPER, No 4 (2015) 'Without Rival in our Metropolitan County' - The History of Luttrellstown Demesne, Co. Dublin Terence Reeves-Smyth Luttrellstown demesne, which occupies around 600 acres within its walls, has long been recognised as the finest eighteenth century landscape in County Dublin and one of the best in Ireland. Except for the unfortunate incorporation of a golf course into the eastern portion of its historic parkland, the designed landscape has otherwise survived largely unchanged for over two centuries. With its subtle inter-relationship of tree belts and woodlands, its open spaces and disbursement of individual tree specimens, together with its expansive lake, diverse buildings and its tree-clad glen, the demesne, known as 'Woodlands' in the 19th century, was long the subject of lavish praise and admiration from tourists and travellers. As a writer in the Irish Penny Journal remarked in October 1840: ‘considered in connection with its beautiful demesne, [Luttrellstown] may justly rank as the finest aristocratic residence in the immediate vicinity of our metropolis.. in its natural beauties, the richness of its plantations and other artificial improvements, is without rival in our metropolitan county, and indeed is characterised by some features of such exquisite beauty as are rarely found in park scenery anywhere, and which are nowhere to be surpassed’.1 Fig 1.     2010 March Ed-lines Welcome one & all to the latest Liverpool Motor Club Bulletin. I’m looking forward to the up-coming Tour of Cheshire (see Chairman’s Chat for details) as the previous events I have marshalled on have been spectacular to say the least. After that I will be going to Race Retro to have a day wallowing in Nostalgia before the season proper starts. As well as commentating at the three Aintree sprints I have been asked to help out at some of the Harewood Hillclimb meetings this year whilst my commentator’s duties at Loton Park have fallen foul of a series of date clashes with the British Sprint Championship. The British Sprint Championship has now got two week-ends in Scotland plus two week-ends in Wales & a week- end in Ulster. All this combined with the usual English events means that we are the only none rally championship to visit all the four home countries. Last year’s British Sprint Champion, Nick Algar, is planning a visit to one of our Aintree events so that he can have a go out the outright course record which is currently held by Roy Dawson in the Gould GR55 now owned by Nick. 2010 will see the return of the Caterham Academy to our April sprint and with the other invited championships it should be a spectacular and entertaining day of sprinting on the club circuit. The introduction of the Standard Car classes is one I am looking forward to. I have long thought that there should be a feeder class and what better way to get involved in sprinting than with your everyday road car?
