Google Communities & Hashtags

We have been exploring each week and hopefully you are finding lots of good resources to help you in your future as a teacher and adding them to your PINTEREST.

You are also exploring Twitter, hashtags and tweeting using our class hashtag #ded318.

It time to see what all the fuss is about regarding Google Plus Communities. I belong to quite a few and learn something new each day as well as helping community members solve problems.

You can visit Google + Communities from your web browser, Safari or Chrome on your iPad or on your computer or you can install the Google+ App which makes it very easy to follow your communities. The suggestions below will get you started, you'll need an account, but it free and you can use any email. If you have a GMAIL account already, just login. You already created a YOUTUBE account, so just use that login. It is the same for all Google type accounts.

Explore all of the following: (Hint: the more members, usually the better the group) • iPad Ed EdTech iPadography for Teachers Google Education Group Kansas 10 Google + Communities every teacher should know about Teachers Helping Teachers Technology Integration Group at Essdack (Kansas Teachers) iPad Lessons A selection of iPad communities A selection of Ed Tech communities

OK, now that you have explored, it is time to find a couple communities to actually join, follow and hopefully participate. Of course for this assignment, the communities you join need to be education related.

Search in your content area, for example, Elementary teachers, Science Teacher communities, Social Studies teachers, etc...... add the word communities to your search or technology, or iPad related or join a couple, maybe join some that I suggested above.

My alert/postings come to my email each day, that is my choice, I read and then go to the community to see more if something interests me. That is an option in the settings. 2 Google Communities Assignment DETAILS

Grading Breakdown: 30 points • 5 points - Image(s)- • 5 points - Links(s) • 5-points - Tweet using class hashtag #ded318 and #google+ • 15 points - thoughtful Review

On a personal note...... I also encourage you to look for communities not related to our class or your education, just things that interest you, for example, I am into quilting, and follow a number of quilting communities.

I started by doing a Google Communities Search for Quilting https:// plus.google.com/u/0/s/Quilting%20Communities/communities?cfem=1 and from there, I found a couple groups to join and learn from. For you maybe it is music, or scrapbooking or cars or cooking or wedding planning or crafts, whatever interests you, see if you can find something. Loving Google + Communities and learning from them both professionally and personally.
