Mini Project Due: Friday, November 2, 2018

Focus of the Project: For this mini poetry project, you will use your poetry analysis skills to analyze a poem of your choice. This poetry project will keep with thematic question from Unit One and Unit Two: How do we overcome adversity?

Standards: ELAGSE7RL5: Analyze how a drama’s or poem’s form or structure (e.g.,soliloquy, ) contributes to its meaning. ELAGSE7SL5: Include multimedia components and visual displays in presentations to clarify claims and findings and emphasize salient points. ELAGSE7L5: Demonstrate understanding of figurative language, word relationships, and nuances in word meanings. ELAGSE7W4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. ELAGSE7W10: Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a two) for a range of discipline-specific tasks, purposes, and audiences.

You must include the following: 1. Poet background information (1-2 paragraphs, 7-10 complete sentences for each paragraph) 2. Poem analysis ( scheme, figurative language, and theme of the poem, how does the poem’s structure impact the reading of the poem?) 3. Poetry Recitation 4. Presentation/ Mini lesson. A brief (2-3 minute) presentation Presentations must also include a visual aid (PowerPoint, Poster, Booklet, etc.)

Steps to complete your project:

2. Poet Background Information Write a 1-2 paragraph summary highlighting the poet’s life. You are to document your sources in a Works Cited Page. Topics and events to research and include: Birth – death dates Number of poems written Important life events Major accomplishments, awards, or publications Time period in which they lived, and how the time period/ culture/history can all have an effect on a poet’s world view or message! *If you look up the poem and poet on the internet and use someone else’s explanation and do not cite, you will receive a zero on this project. (That is called plagiarism).
