Programme Printing & Sponsor Front Cover Photo: Sam Collier EDITORIAL Wootton Bassett Town FC Good afternoon and welcome back to Rylands Way for this FTL Futbol Hellenic would like to thank our kit League fixture against Clanfield 85. A warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters from Clanfield who have made the journey from Oxfordshire for the game. We hope they will join us in the bar after the game for some beer and sponsors for this season: sandwiches. Well that long unbeaten run came to an end a fortnight ago with the defeat against First Team – TBA Cricklade. For me it always looked a tough one as Graham Jackson always seems to be capable of motivating his side for the game against Wootton Bassett. If he First Team Tracksuits & T-shirts- C.S. Building Services and Macmillan could do the same week in week out against other sides he would have won the Cancer Support Hellenic Division One West title a few times by now! Not sure what it is about playing us but it seems to be the highlight of the season for some at Cricklade. After Reserves – Ganges Indian Cuisine seeing that Purton went down at Cheltenham and at home to Easington, a win against Cricklade would now see us at the top of the league which makes the Under 18 Floodlit – Griffin & Weston, Electrical Service Engineers Cricklade defeat all the more frustrating. Now there is just one point separating the Under 18A – JK Electrical top four and as I said in the last progarmme a lot of points still to be won and lost. It is important that we return to winning ways here today and it will not be easy Under 18B – Wildman Ltd, Premier Payroll Ltd against a useful Clanfield side featuring a couple of ex-Bassett players in Eddie Under 18C - Quickmovenow.com Everett and Rob Coules. In preparing this programme I had to chuckle when I saw the crowd for the declared Under 16 – Aftech Limited for the recent game at Letcombe. For Bassett there was myself, Rod, Roger, Paul Under 16 Girls - SciMAT Ltd and his Dad, Chris and John. Letcombe themselves must have had all of ten spectators which makes 17 and even if you add the two teams, all those in the Under 15 - K & M Developments, C.S. Building Services, dugout you still do not get to 60. Des must have counted all those who were in the village sat in front of their fires. Not sure who these people are fooling with these A.T. Kitchin Homes crowd declarations sometimes! Under 14 - GSL UK Limited In terms of content in this week’s programme, Dave looks back on the Cricklade Under 13 Girls - TBA game and the events that prompted his comments in the Adver in his From The Dugout column. The From The Archives series focuses on that 1970-71 Season, Under 13A – The Barber Shop, which saw a 7th place finish in the old Wiltshire Combination League. PAS Construction, CCTV Nationwide, The Youth Section in Focus features games from February 14th and 21st and also st Surehome Construction, Wason & Webb the league tables as at 21 February showing how our sides are faring. In his Footy Nut Column, Steve Hale catches up on all that is happening in the Under 13B – TBA local football scene and who he thinks will be there or thereabouts come the season Under 11 – C.S. Building Services end. Interestingly he is not willing to commit on the race for the Division One title race! Under 10 – Total Value Consultancy, Handygirl Ltd, I.C.C. Car & The programme again features the latest edition of Touchline, the Club’s Commercial Vehicle Body Repairs newsletter and also again contains the letter from the Club Chairman looking for Under 9A - Quattro Group, High Motive help with the running of the Club. The First Team player featured this week in the Player Profile is Craig Shand. The WBTFC Dream Team feature sees Chairman Under 9B - WGS Power & Lighting Ltd, High Motive Paul Harrison commit his all time WBTFC XI to paper. I hope you enjoy seeing who is featured in these Dream Teams and I would welcome all submissions, be they Under 8 - S.D.C. South Marston from club officials, players or supporters. Just send me an email using the address Training Equipment – Don Rogers Sports on Page 2. First Team Training Kit Sponsor – Milfed Enjoy the game and here is to three more points today for that promotion chase. Programme Printing & Sponsor – Cats Solutions Best wishes And all our First Team player sponors and Mark all our groundside board sponsors CHAIRMAN’S CHAT Chairmans Chat – Sat 27th February Good afternoon, welcome to you all and to our visitors Clanfield 85. I have previously referenced in this column the clubs football development plan, and how it maps out our objectives for growth and continuation of the club. The plan was initially required as evidence to the County FA of our plans, and to receive their support in achieving charter standard accreditation. I am pleased to say though that unlike many such plans, it has not simply sat static in a draw, but rather we have continued to review and update it on a quarterly basis, in no small part thanks to the diligence of Andy Walduck. Keeping the plan alive in this way is important in that it provides the club roadmap helping to ensure we are all working for the same agreed goals. The plan is also though absolutely vital in our relationship with the County FA, and a strong football development plan is critical for success in gaining support from the FA and Football Foundation for grant assistance, which we know we will be seeking come the relocation. What the plan provides the FA is evidence of the football benefits that will result from financially investing in developing clubs facilities. Tedious and boring it can seem to be, but our football development plan is a major factor in the clubs continued success. An objective for this season was to bring the previous “Community Soccer” initiative under the WBTFC umbrella, and I am pleased to say this has been achieved with the launch at the beginning of the season on WBTFC Community Football, led by Matt Laurence. The numbers attending the weekly sessions have been steadily increasing, and the holiday clubs have also proved to be well attended. In addition our club/school links have begun this year, and Matt now provides coaching into three of our local primary schools as well as youth girls within the secondary school. The structure is now there for continued growth, and it seems the community appetite is responding. Thanks go to Matt and Pete Yeardley for driving this all so effectively. Right, enough of that boring admin and planning stuff, and back to the game. With no disrespect to our visitors, lets hope for a quick return to our winning ways. Cheers – FROM THE DUGOUT Firstly I would like to welcome the players, officials and supporters of Clanfield 85 to Rylands Way.
