Valley Children’s Museum Introduces New Maker Space

Valley Children’s Museum officially introduce the newly remodeled mobile museum trailer. It is now an interactive maker space. Chalkboard walls, a Lego wall and a magnetic wall are some of the new additions that will encourage children to play independently or together using their own creativity. In addition, instructor-led activities will focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, En- gineering, Art and Math) activities for children ages 3-10. These activities replace those that were previously focused on the California Missions. “We are grateful to Sandia Laboratories for their generous $25,000 grant to be our lead Play in the Park sponsor. We share a common goal of preparing children for tomorrow’s workforce by stimulating creative think- ing and building confidence all the while having fun in a safe environment”, said Ed Duarte, Board of Directors President, Valley Children’s Museum. The new space was unveiled at a ribbon-cutting cer- emonyc with a welcome reception catered by Dublin High School’s culinary program. Museums, children’s museums are places where chil- dren learn through play and exploration in environments designed just for them. Children’s museums create play- ful, interactive learning experiences that build their con- fidence and inspire life-long learning. Valley Children’s Museum offers a constantly changing menu of activities so that visitors have new things to learn and explore on each visit. The museum also offers opportunities for young patrons to give back to the community. Teens can partici- pate as volunteers at events and advance their commit- ment through the Teen Leadership Council. The students develop their leadership skills while they earn valuable community service experience. They also enjoy the per- sonal rewards of being of service to children who look up to them.
