The reasons why this vision was not realized are many, but one thing is for sure, the Citation convertible was a very expensive car brought out at the same Editor’s 2 time as a pretty severe economic recession. For any other of several reasons, the Citation Letter convertible saw just 930 production copies come off the assembly lines. Here is what we know about production of the Citation Model 76B, the convertible. Members’ Cars 3 Over at the Wayne, Michigan assembly plant a total of just 327 Citation convertibles were produced and of that number we have found and recorded information from around 93 units 2015 EOC Annual 4 or just over 28.4%. CHEVROLETTER March 2021 Vol 2021 Issue 03.0 Director’s Report March 2021 Getting old really stinks…….I don’t suppose that comes as a surprise to many of our members. I am reminded of this fact often as I attempt to do things now that I have previously done in my younger days. Recently I noticed the brake lights were not working on my 1968 Corvette. I started diagnosing the problem hoping for a bad fuse or loose ground but no such luck. The next step was going under the dash to check the stoplight switch. For anyone who has worked under the dash of a Corvette you know that being a contortionist is of great value. At the age of 70, I no longer bend like I used to, require glasses to see what I am doing and get claustrophobic in confined spaces! To make this ordeal work, I removed the driver’s seat, door sill plate, steering wheel and disconnected the clutch pedal. After doing all of this I could see a bit of the switch….a one year only switch that is much harder to remove that the standard plunger style used in 1969! As of now, life took over…the snows came, the bedroom needed to be painted and the car still sits waiting for someone younger, more flexible with smaller hands to remove and replace the switch from hell. Car show and cruise nights are slowly starting to be announced as we enter the 2021 car season. The President’s council will be held soon and we will get a better view of the show season.

Shoot Car I asked him to give me the whole story about his Edsel and he graciously provided the following: In the spring of 1986, I answered an advertisement to buy Edsel parts in Kingman, AZ. That is President’s 2 where I found my Edsel Citation Convertible. It had been vandalized, but it was basically com- Letter plete. I purchased the car with the intent of putting it back on the road as I had been a fan of the Edsel since I was a kid, when my father purchased a 1958 Edsel. Tropicana Photo 3 Even though I knew that my car was a very low production-model, I was never aware that this Shoot Car – car was anything special until August 2010, when I received an email from Jere Gauss with a continued “Tropicana Reborn” advertisement from the L.A. Times attached. Jere is a recognized authority on the Edsel automobile options and technical features. I consider him a great friend and was Jim Popp’s passing 3 amused and skeptical when his email suggested the car shown in the advertisement might be the car that I own today.
