Formula Kart Stars kicks off 2011 in style.

• Championship presentation at Autosport International • Raft of new prizes announced

Formula Kart Stars started 2011 with a bang at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham last weekend (Jan 13-16) as the Management backed series hosted its 2010 Championship Awards on the karting stage.

2010 Champions Nathan Aston (MSA Cadet), George Russell (Mini Max), Ash Hand (Junior Max) and Ben Barnicoat (KF3) received their championship trophies and TAG Heuer watches as well as the other prizes they earned last year on Saturday afternoon.

But the prize giving was just the tip of the iceberg as a vast array of famous names and karts appeared on the FKS stand during the four days with the championship also announcing some of the new developments for 2011.

A deal to run the CIK approved Alfano Alspy data logger in the Mini Max, Junior Rotax and KF3 classes was confirmed on Thursday with Izone Driver Performance and Powerboat P1 announcing new prizes for 2011 on Friday.

On Saturday, in addition to awarding no less than eleven TAG Heuer watches to competitors, the company that is celebrating its 150 th Birthday in 2011 confirmed that it would be continuing its relationship with the series, as did official fuel supplier One Fuel by Shell Racing, who also announced the introduction of the Shell Trophy this year.

Class sponsors martin Plowman (MSA Cadet), (Mini Max), Bradley Ellis (Junior Rotax) and Luke Hines (KF3) will continue to provide awards at all 12 of this years rounds while additional prizes are set to be announced before the 2011 FKS Championship starts at Rowrah on April 23-24.

Formula Kart Stars are also offering a tyre draw in 2011 where one driver in each class at every round will be selected at random to receive a free set of slick tyres.

Motorsport greats and Barrie ‘Whizzo’ Williams both took to the stage during the Show, as did Allan McNish, David Brabham, Anthony Davidson and BBC TV’s Jake Humphrey. Among the karts on display on the FKS stand were examples driven by Lewis Hamilton, the late Ayrton Senna and fellow ex-Grand Prix drivers , and Sir .

A small number of grid places are still available in Cadet and Junior Rotax with places also remaining in KF3. Reserve entries are also still being taken in Mini Max in case there is room for a second grid. Entry forms are available on the Formula Kart Stars website www.formulakartstars.com
