ADVAITA, CALEB A. MORSE1,2 AND DOUGLAS LADD3 ABSTRACT. – A total of 154 lichens, four lichenicolous fungi, and one allied fungus were collected by the authors from 2004 to 2015 from Pipestone National Monument (PNM), in Pipestone County, on the Prairie Coteau of southwestern Minnesota. Twelve additional species collected by previous researchers, but not found by the authors, bring the total number of taxa known for PNM to 171. This represents a substantial increase over previous reports for PNM, likely due to increased intensity of field work, and also to the marked expansion of corticolous and anthropogenic substrates since the site was first surveyed in 1899. Reexamination of 116 vouchers deposited in MIN and the PNM herbarium led to the exclusion of 48 species previously reported from the site. Crustose lichens are the most common growth form, comprising 65% of the lichen diversity. Sioux Quartzite provided substrate for 43% of the lichen taxa collected. Saxicolous lichen communities were characterized by sampling four transects on cliff faces and low outcrops. An annotated checklist of the lichens of the site is provided, as well as a list of excluded taxa. We report 24 species (including 22 lichens and two lichenicolous fungi) new for Minnesota: Acarospora boulderensis, A. contigua, A. erythrophora, A. strigata, Agonimia opuntiella, Arthonia clemens, A. muscigena, Aspicilia americana, Bacidina delicata, Buellia tyrolensis, Caloplaca flavocitrina, C. lobulata, C. -

A molecular phylogenetic analysis of rDNA was performed for seven Caloplaca, seven Xanthoria, one Fulgensia and five outgroup species. Phylogenetic hypotheses are constructed based on nuclear small and large subunit rDNA, separately and in combination. Three strongly supported major monophyletic groups were revealed within the Teloschistaceae. One group represents the Xanthoria fallax-group. The second group includes three subgroups: (1) X. parietina and X. elegans; (2) basal placodioid Caloplaca species followed by speciations leading to X. polycarpa and X. candelaria; and (3) a mixture of placodioid and endolithic Caloplaca species. The third main monophyletic group represents a heterogeneous assemblage of Caloplaca and Fulgensia species with a drastically different metabolite content. We report here that the two genera Caloplaca and Xanthoria, as well as the subgenus Gasparrinia, are all polyphyletic. The taxonomic significance of thallus morphology in Teloschistaceae and the current delimitation of the genus Xanthoria is discussed in light of these results. Teuvoa saxicola differs from other Teuvoa species by its saxicolous habitat, and its yellow brown, thick thallus. Teuvoa alpina resembles T. junipericola from western USA, but differs by its smaller ascospores and its higher altitude habitat. The morphological characters of the new species are illustrated. New material is described of T. tibetica, the only species previously recorded from China. The morphological and phylogenetic characteristics of the three species are discussed and compared with similar taxa. Key words—Megasporaceae, Pertusariales, Lobothallia, lichens, taxonomy Introduction The lichen genus Teuvoa Sohrabi & S.D. Leav. (Pertusariales, Megasporaceae) was established based on the analysis of molecular sequence data and morphological characters (Sohrabi & al. 2013). The lichen family Megasporaceae has six genera: Aspicilia, Circinaria, Lobothallia, Megaspora, Sagedia, and Teuvoa (Schmitt & al. 2006, Lumbsch & al. 2007, Nordin & al. 2010, Sohrabi & al. 2013). Phylogenetic analysis by Sohrabi & al. (2013) supports Teuvoa as the sister group to Lobothallia. Teuvoa is characterized by its 8-spored asci, absence of extrolites, rather short conidia and ascospores, lack of a subhypothecial algal layer, and different substratum preferences (Sohrabi & al. 2013). Lendemer: Institute of Systematic Botany, The New York Botanical Garden, Bronx, NY 10458-5126 USA ABSTRACT. Based upon voucher collections, 108 lichen species are reported from the Indiana Forest Alliance Ecoblitz area, a 900 acre unit in Morgan-Monroe and Yellowwood State Forests, Brown and Monroe Counties, Indiana. The lichen biota of the study area was characterized as: i) dominated by species with green coccoid photobionts (80% of taxa); ii) comprised of 49% species that reproduce primarily with lichenized diaspores vs. 44% that reproduce primarily through sexual ascospores; iii) comprised of 65% crustose taxa, 29% foliose taxa, and 6% fruticose taxa; iv) one wherein many species are rare (e.g., 55% of species were collected fewer than three times) and fruticose lichens other than Cladonia were entirely absent; and v) one wherein cyanolichens were poorly represented, comprising only three species. Taxonomic diversity ranged from 21 to 56 species per site, with the lowest diversity sites concentrated in riparian corridors and the highest diversity sites on ridges. Low Gap Nature Preserve, located within the study area, was found to have comparable species richness to areas outside the nature preserve, although many species rare in the study area were found only outside preserve boundaries. Sets of rare species are delimited and discussed, as are observations as to the overall low abundance of lichens on corticolous substrates and the presence of many unhealthy foliose lichens on mature tree boles. -

It is the first species of Megasporaceae to be discovered on the islands and only the seventh to be reported from South America. It is distinguished from other species of Aspicilia by the unusual secondary metabolite chemistry (hypostictic acid) and molecular sequence data. The collections of the new species support two lichenicolous fungi: Endococcus propinquus s. lat., which is new to the Falkland Islands, and a new species of Sagediopsis with small perithecia and 3-septate ascospores c. 18–20 × 4–5 μm, which is described here as S. epimalvinae. A total of 60 new DNA sequences obtained from species of Megasporaceae (mostly Aspicilia) are also introduced. Collantes Díaz 2 RESUMEN En el presente trabajo se investigó la Caloplaca saxicola (Hoffm.), recolectada cerca de la laguna de Chinchaycocha (Carhuamayo - Cerro de Pasco), a una altitud de 4100 msnm. A 240 gramos de muestra, se sometió a una extracción acetónica por maceración; se procedió a separar diversos componentes del extracto, empleando la cromatografía en columna, con el sistema cloroformo-acetona aumentando la cantidad de acetona; luego, las fracciones obtenidas se purifican empleando técnicas cromatográficas y recristalizaciones. Finalmente, se elucidaron y se determinaron las estructuras de los sólidos obtenidos, analizando sus espectros de IR, RMN H1 , RMN C 13 y EM; éstos son: ácido úsnico y parietina.
