Their initial clients Included Grim Reaper* Percy Jones, and Cities. Bob and Walter remember, "We were starving...we opened a small office that we shared with a computer company....We were plugging like crazy on Grim Reaper, and although things were going great with the band... Their first record sold about a quarter of a million and their second record sold about a hundred seventy five thousand... but we weren't seeing any money as 1t was being filtered through a small Independent label in England and then supposedly back to us." Although there was no money coming in, Concrete was developing valuable connections in the then relatively underground area of heavy metal music. It was and is an area where traditional record marketing doesn't work. They developed relationships with the "fanzines" (undergroud fan magazines), non-traditional record stores and college radio stations and began to realize they had found a special nltch. At the New Music Seminar in 1985 Concrete distributed a write up on the area of music they were becoming specialists 1n, and at one of the cocktail parties Rick Dobbis offered them their first outside marketing project on Armoured Saint for Chrysalis. Almost at the same time they also picked up marketing on the group Anthrax for Megaforce/Island through their friend Jonny Z. Suddenly things took off. Bob points out, " The problem was that the majors were hearing about all these independent metal bands that were selling 60-70-80 thousand records and they would sign them and try to market them through AOR radio and nothing would happen." As a result, almost overnight, Concrete was marketing and promoting heavy metal groups for practically every major label.

It has endured in the face of the changing times, without itself changing much, isolated off in its own world. Glorfindel had the opinion that Bombadil would be the last to fall, after all else was lost, last as he was first. In Tolkien’s story, that opinion was never tested. Good triumphed over evil, and everyone lived happily ever after. Not true on the Internet. Since 1993, the forces of evil have created a desolation and oppression that Sauron even with the help of his ruling ring could not imagine perpetrating. From the days of the Internet as an academic research network until today’s Internet I have witnessed ruination unbelieveable. The decay, corruption, and runiation of the Internet boggles my mind. Like Tom Bombadil in his carefully demarcated borders, The Genesis Discography has been an island in the storm, surrounded on all sides but never giving in.

I lost interest half way through David Tennant's tenure in the driving seat of the TARDIS and only came back on board half way through whatshisface's seasons, but I have been massively impressed by Dear Friends, Peter Capaldi, who has brought back the curmudgeonly element that I feel has been Welcome to another issue of the magazine, which missing from the role in recent years. each issue I reiterate that I am not just proud to be the editor of, but that it never ceases to amaze me I lost interest in Dr Who for some years mainly that it has been going for so many weeks without because I had a lodger who was so irritating about a break.

2 Another happened last year when the Rolling Stones dragged Mick Taylor away from undeserved obscurity, and played a series of barnstorming gigs including Glastonbury Festival, and another is going on at the moment and started last night. King Crimson have been, unarguable, one of the most idiosyncratic and artistically interesting bands for forty five years now, since they formed in 1968. Leader Robert Fripp left the music business some years ago, and King Crimson seem to have been on indefinite hiatus since about 2008. However, last year Fripp announced that the band will return, and this week, the new seven piece line-up played their first shows. The silence surrounding these shows is deafening. I spoke to Jakko Jakszyk who is the second guitarist and vocalist with the new King Crimson, last week on Facebook. He was understandably cagey about Dear Friends, what was happening. I asked how the rehearsals were going, and he said that they seemed OK but Welcome to another issue of the Gonzo Weekly. told me to ask him again after they had done a show or two. We are always being told how the music industry is in crisis and how record sales are plummeting. He will be back in the UK in October, apparently, However, once or twice a year there are still major so I will be doing my best to nail him down for a artistic and cultural events which take the western proper interview then. world by storm.
