President’s Welcome Dear Club Patron, Life Members, Committee Members, Members, Parents & Supporters,

There is always excitement about a new cricket season, none more than this season 2018/19 at the Wanneroo Districts Cricket Club.

I’d like to take this moment to thank outgoing President/Chairman Norm Fawcett for his tireless work over the past 5 years as our leader and the past 17 years on committees and coaching! Good luck Normy!

The club first commenced as Wanneroo DCC on the 12th April 1976 and were accepted in the WACA Premier competition in 1979.

A first grade side was entered into the WACA Premier competition in 1983. Since then we have progressed into the great club we are today, having sides in all four senior grades along with a Colts squad and 17s, 15s, 14s and 13s in the junior WACA Premier competition as well as a female U17’s side in the Female Premier Cricket Youth League for the 2017/18 season.

Our home ground is Kingsway Sports Ground where we have two outstanding adjoining turf grounds, which in the winter of 2018, the blocks on both grounds were completely re-laid. The club also has wonderful turf training facilities, which will also get re-laid and upgraded at the end of the 2018/19 season. We are also one of the only WACA Premier Clubs to have its own indoor facility, The Shed, which has four carpeted lanes along with two machines. Our modern well equipped club rooms has a fully licensed bar with a spacious entertainment area.

We pride ourselves on all of our achievements over the years, which include a solitary Bank West One Day Premiership in 2000/01 defeating Willetton at the WACA. We also won our first and only Club Championship so far in 2011/12, which coincided with our first two day pennant premiership in 2011/12 defeating Subiaco/Floreat at the WACA. There was also a second two day premiership awaiting us in season 2013/14 defeating Claremont/Nedlands at the WACA.

In an amazing turn of events, after some fruitless years, 2017/18 would be another Premiership year for the Wanneroo Districts Cricket Club as our first grade took out their first ever 20/20 Premiership, defeating Claremont/Nedlands in pennant final then the Country XI at the WACA Ground to be crowned Statewide 20/20 Champions. In an amazing fact, Club Director of Coaching and Life Member, Joel Charles played in the first three premierships as a player and coached the fourth, a wonderful effort.

A number of our players progressing through to State and National representation, including , , Michael & , Mitchell Johnson and current first grade player

Travis Birt. There has also been a plethora of Roo’s who have represented WA at junior and senior level.

We have a specialised coaching and administration structure in place to ensure we are continuing to strive for excellence both on and off the ground. This handbook will provide you with all the information to enable you to become the best you can be, both as a player and as a club member. Please take time to read our Culture, Codes of Behaviour and Policies we have put in place, as I am sure you will gain so much from them and in doing so will gain much enjoyment being a part of our wonderful club.

Let’s have a successful year on and off the field in 2018/19!

Get on the Roo Train!

We lead by example…be the one to step up first, show support and encouragement to your fellow club members both junior and senior and above all make yourself approachable to all….a good leader will seek to create an environment where all can achieve to their highest ability.

Discipline We understand that cricket is as much a mental game as it is a physical game. We believe that maintaining discipline in all aspects of our preparation for games and generally within the club enhances our ability to demonstrate this skill on playing days. In the case of non-playing members we understand that maintaining discipline builds club spirit and provides a better basis for decision making.

Passion We love cricket, we love our club, and we love to win!

We never give up no matter the odds.

The sweetest moment of all is when we get to sing our song!

Player Responsibilities

Training Attendance and a commitment to train as you wish to play is critical in increasing your chances to improve your game. Attendance at training is one of the selection criteria, and pre-season training is a prerequisite for selection in round 1. If you cannot make a training session, you must advise the coach.

Be prepared and professional. Be on time, wearing WDCC appropriate training gear for the session.

Strive to get the best from every training session and look to do that little extra outside of normal training times.

Set your standards high and encourage team mates to do the same. Support the coaching staff by full commitment to all drills, offer suggestions for improvement rather than complaints.

Go out of your way to show support for juniors or new members who attend the training sessions and give encouragement to enhance a feeling of belonging, and most importantly enjoy the sessions.

Selection Be available. WDCC prides itself on the professionalism and commitment of its players, and as such expects them to prioritise their team and their club during the season. Players are encouraged to manage their personal life throughout the season proper.

If you cannot be available for selection you are expected to inform your coach and well in advance.

Selection nights are compulsory for all players and you are expected to inform your captain and coach if you are unable to attend in advance.

Being selected to play in any grade for our club is a privilege not a right and you must respect the selection panel’s decision and acknowledge that the opportunity to improve and be promoted is always the objective at any level of the game.

Fitness issues need to be communicated to captains and coaches…you must be honest and up front if you are not fully fit to be selected. It is unfair for those next in line for selection if you deny them the chance to play…the club and your team mates always come first.

Match Day We are professional in our approach and ensure we give ourselves the best preparation for match day we can. A half-hearted approach to this not only effects personal performance but effects team performance.

Captains will advise the time players are expected to be present. Players are expected to be on time and organised, wearing appropriate WDCC clothing.

Be mentally and physically prepared and focused on the job at hand. Be honest and up front with team mates and selectors if you are not prepared 100%.

A well-disciplined fitness regime and a healthy nutritional diet will greatly enhance your chances of success as an individual which in turn will enhance team success.

Don’t be the one to let your team mates down and be strong enough to accept constructive criticism if you do.

Support your Captain and team-mates regardless of individual results. Respect, acknowledge and thank the coaches, volunteers and supporters that are helping you and your team play to your best.

Fulfil team duties as directed, and be proactive in completing the “one percenters”.

Clubrooms and Facilities Respect and have pride in your Clubrooms and facilities.

Make every effort to attend, promote and support WDCC functions. Give thanks to those outside of the playing group that support our love for the club including Club sponsors.

Player Commitment As a WDCC player I will endeavour to uphold our club culture, abide by the following Policies & Documents, and encourage others to do the same:

 Wanneroo Districts Cricket Club Rules;  Wanneroo Districts Cricket Club Culture;  Wanneroo Districts Cricket Club Player Responsibilities;  Wanneroo Districts Cricket Club Code of Behaviour;  Wanneroo Districts Cricket Club Social Media Policy;  WACA Premier League Code of Conduct;  WACA Premier League Anti-Bullying Policy.

Wanneroo Districts Cricket Club Selection Policy and Process

Selection Philosophy Selection is based on consistent performance of individuals, team balance, and commitment to training, with an emphasis on opportunities for player development.

Where possible, players will be allowed a reasonable number of opportunities to perform at a higher grade once they are promoted on form.

Historical performance, particularly at a higher level, will be taken into account.

Selection Committee The Selection Committee shall consist of a Chairperson who shall be appointed by the Committee, the Club Coach and the Captains of the respective Grade sides.

Additional persons may be invited to attend Selection meetings for advice, such as Assistant Coaches, Junior Coaches, Vice Captains, although they are not eligible to vote.

Selection Process All teams will be selected by 7.30pm Thursday evenings before a scheduled fixture(s), not including changes dictated by injury and/or late withdrawals.

In the case of a deadlocked vote, a three-way vote will be cast between the Chairperson of Selection, the Club Coach, and the Captain of the Grade being selected.

All players that have been omitted from any grade will be informed by a member of the Selection Committee prior to team selection announcement to explain the reasons why.

Selected players in each grade are expected to attend individual team meeting immediately after team announcements to discuss game plan.

Selection Feedback and Disputes Players can discuss selection issues, concerns, and bowling positions within a team, etc. with any or all of the selection committee. The Director of Cricket is also available for any issues and/or the need to escalate.

Racial and Religious Vilification Code Cricket has a Racial and Religious Vilification Code for all national competitions.

The code states that a player will not engage in any conduct or act towards or speak to any other player in a manner which offends, insults, humiliates, intimidates, threatens, disparages or vilifies the other player on the basis of that player’s race, religion, colour, descent or national or ethnic origin.

Guidelines exist for breaches of the code e.g. In some instances it may result in the withdrawal of coaching accreditation. Circumstances where adults are involved with a breach of the code should be dealt with seriously and remedial action should be a mandatory requirement by clubs and associations.

In more serious cases, a conciliation procedure should be considered and conducted by a representative of the Equal Opportunity Commission in the state/territory where the breach has purportedly occurred.

The conciliation should involve the complainant, umpire/officials who initiate the complaint, the respondent, and supporting documentation.

A complaint should:

 Be in writing;  Outline the circumstances of the allegations made; and  Be accompanied by supporting documentation including witness statements or video evidence.

In the instance where players are in breach of the code, an emphasis to educate the player to understand the code should be paramount. Remedial or punishable action should be appropriate to the age and understanding of the player in question.

We want to encourage you to benefit from all the opportunities which social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube etc.) present, and help you to minimise any potential risks.

It’s important to also share these tips with your friends and team mates as everyone needs to be aware of their digital reputation and how it can be best managed.

For this reason, any comments/posts/photos/videos/etc. which you provide on these sites will be subject to the same guidelines as detailed in the Wanneroo Districts CC Code of Behaviour.

Be respectful and courteous Think before you post a comment or respond to someone online and ensure that all of your communications are respectful and courteous. Once you have put something online, there is almost no taking it back and it is almost impossible to delete. Your comments may be seen by the media, opposition, WACA or sponsors and could impact negatively on you and Wanneroo Districts CC.

Avoid getting into heated discussions online or talking about sensitive issues. Speak to a Wanneroo Districts CC committee member or your captain if you feel as though someone is trying to provoke a response from you or harasses/threatens you online.

Protect your identity and online reputation All users of social media sites need to manage what information they share so as to protect their identity and reputation. Think before you post and/or tag an image The images you share online will reflect on Wanneroo Districts CC so it is important that you consider this before uploading or tagging photos and videos. Also be aware that these photos may be taken out of context and used by other people so if you are not happy for the image to be shared publicly, it should not be placed online.

Respect other people’s accounts and devices There may be occasions where a teammate leaves a mobile phone unattended or has not properly logged out of an account. As a show of respect, do not use that person’s device or account to harass others or impersonate that person and cause them humiliation.

Maintain a balance Whilst communicating with friends, team-mates and opposition online can be fun and easy, it is also important that you maintain a balance between your online and offline interactions. Putting in face time with friends and family can help to strengthen those relationships and participating in events that bring you into contact with your club-mates can also generate further support and a sense of community.

REMEMBER: Wanneroo Districts CC acknowledges and encourages its members’ right to contribute content to public communications. However, inappropriate use of such communications has the potential to cause damage to Wanneroo Districts CC, its players, club members and volunteers.
