Mit CONCRETE AND GOLD präsentieren die Rockikonen 2017 ihr neues, mittlerweile neuntes Album und den Nachfolger ihrer „Saint Cecilia“-EP, die 2015 erschien. Außerdem handelt es sich dabei um das erste Album, an dem Session- und Tourkeyboarder Rami Jaffee als festes Bandmitglied mitwirkte. Als Produzenten für ihr neues Album erwählte die Band Greg Kurstin, den Grohl vor ein paar Jahren noch als Mitglied der Indieband The Bird and the Bee kennen und schätzen lernte. Im Laufe der Jahre schaffte es Kurstin zum absoluten Starproduzenten, der für Künstler wie Adele, P!NK und Take That hinterm Mischpult saß, und nun im berühmten EastWest-Studio in Hollywood auch für die Foo Fighters. Trotz seiner poppigen Vergangenheit und der Premiere im Heavy Rock ist es Kurstin gelungen, »Concrete And Gold« gemeinsam mit der Band einen rundum fetten Sound zu verleihen, der auf hoher Riffdichte, großen Melodien und durchdachten Arrangements basiert. Nicht ohne Grund bezeichnete die Band das neue Album bereits als eine Motörhead-Version von SGT. PEPPER. Wie das klingt, verrieten die Foo Fighters bereits im Juni mit der ersten Single „Run“, die einiges von den übrigen zehn Tracks auf CONCRETE AND GOLD erwarten lässt. Auch wenn man die Foo Fighters problemlos aus einer Million anderer Rockbands heraushören kann, schaffen sie es 2017 immer noch, zu den innovativsten Vertretern ihres Genres zu gehören.
