    COMMUNITY RISK ASSESSMENT Squamish-Lillooet Regional District Abstract This Community Risk Assessment is a component of the SLRD Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. A Community Risk Assessment is the foundation for any local authority emergency management program. It informs risk reduction strategies, emergency response and recovery plans, and other elements of the SLRD emergency program. Evaluating risks is a requirement mandated by the Local Authority Emergency Management Regulation. Section 2(1) of this regulation requires local authorities to prepare emergency plans that reflects their assessment of the relative risk of occurrence, and the potential impact, of emergencies or disasters on people and property.     935 Holocene tephras in lake cores from northern British Columbia, Canada Thomas R. Lakeman, John J. Clague, Brian Menounos, Gerald D. Osborn, Britta J.L. Jensen, and Duane G. Froese Abstract: Sediment cores recovered from alpine and subalpine lakes up to 250 km apart in northern British Columbia con- tain five previously unrecognized tephras. Two black phonolitic tephras, each 5–10 mm thick, occur within 2–4 cm of each other in basal sediments from seven lakes in the Finlay River – Dease Lake area. The upper and lower Finlay tephras are slightly older than 10 220 – 10 560 cal year B.P. and likely originate from two closely spaced eruptions of one or two large volcanoes in the northern Cordilleran volcanic province. The Finlay tephras occur at the transition between deglacial sediments and organic-rich postglacial mud in the lake cores and, therefore, closely delimit the termination of the Fraser Glaciation in northern British Columbia. Sediments in Bob Quinn Lake, which lies on the east edge of the northern Coast Mountains, contain two black tephras that differ in age and composition from the Finlay tephras. The lower Bob Quinn tephra is 3–4 mm thick, basaltic in composition, and is derived from an eruption in the Iskut River volcanic field about 9400 cal years ago. The upper Bob Quinn tephra is 12 mm thick, trachytic in composition, and probably 7000–8000 cal years old. A fifth tephra occurs as a cryptotephra near the top of two cores from the Finlay River area and is correlated to the east lobe of the White River tephra (ca.

    Fee Creek Spawning and Rearing Channel Re-Vegetation Project Fee Creek Salmon Spawning Channel Riparian Restoration Project Prepared for: University of Victoria Restoration of Natural Systems Diploma Program ER- 390 Selected Project Prepared by: Kathy Jenkins Student # - 0135005 February, 2008 Fee Creek Spawning and Rearing Channel Re-Vegetation Project ABSTRACT In 1991, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans created a spawning and rearing system beside the Birkenhead River to enhance habitat for Coho (Oncorhynchus kisutch) and Chinook (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) salmon primarily. The stocks of salmon from the Fraser River salmon runs had been declining since the 1970’s and there were efforts undertaken around the province to change this pattern of decline. A fish hatchery was built near the Fee Creek spawning channel before this development. The channel was designed to help enhance the salmon population more naturally; through increasing important habitat and to use the area in coordination with the hatchery for increased hatchery success... The DFO created a series of ponds and riffles to provide both spawning and rearing habitat for salmon and the area has been maintained since and has provided a healthy habitat for salmon. Fee Creek is currently used not only for important reproduction habitat but also for educational purposes. As part of the Department of Fisheries Salmonids in the Classroom program children are brought to the area to learn about the life cycle of salmon and their importance in our ecosystems. The Fee Creek re- vegetation project was developed to restore an area of the system that had been destroyed by BC Hydro clearing during their routine power line protection.

Detailed mapping of the type area near Kamloops has resulted in its subdivision into two formations and thirteen formal and informal members. The Tranquille Formation, 0-450 metres thick, consists of lacustrine sediments which grade upward into pillowed flows, hyaloclastite breccia and aquagene tuff. The overlying Dewdrop Flats Formation, with nine members, consists of up to 1000 metres of basalt to andesite phreatic breccia, flow breccia and flat-lying flows.
