The Downfall of Real Madrid Side-Lining Keylor Navas 1. The
The Downfall of Real Madrid Side-lining Keylor Navas Because of his sharp reflexes he was key player on their more triumphant campaigns. The unjustifiable reason behind him being on the bench is that they are persistent on giving Thibaut Courtois more and more second chances, despite his failure to replicate Keylor Navas' key saves and lead Real Madrid to the silverware that is needed to bring the team back to what it once was. 1. The Constant Search For a Striker That Fits Despite buying who was arguably the Premier League’s best striker, Eden Hazard, they cannot find a striker that fits or replaces, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldo. The replacement, Hazard, has been dubbed the second worst Galactico by Marca, after the biggest flop in history, Michael Owen. 2. Confidence With the departure of Ronaldo and Zidane prior to last season the team’s morale has gone down and the once great team has started to look fragile. Then the moment that all Real Madrid fans were waiting for happened. Zidane came back but now with the lack of budget to go into depth after the signing of the flop Eden Hazard means that the deluded men behind Los Blanco’s think that Zidane, one of the most successful mangers in the history of football should leave the club as they have nothing else to blame it on So, what does everybody have to say about it? • 'Success made us lose our intensity': Real Madrid president Florentino Perez claims their own triumphs is the reason behind the current downfall • And without any European success this season and the last have been. -

Uefa.Com Users' Team of the Year 2007 Revealed
Media Release Date: 18/01/2008 Communiqué aux médias No. 006 Medien-Mitteilung uefa.com users’ Team of the Year 2007 revealed AC Milan players rewarded in poll The uefa.com users’ Team of 2007 has been announced, with UEFA Champions League winners AC Milan having the most players in this year’s selection. Over 3.75 million votes were cast by 277,985 individual uefa.com users in the poll. The dream dozen contains just two survivors from last year’s team along with five newcomers. Milan’s trio includes central defender Alessandro Nesta, who was also selected in 2002, 2003 and 2004, and left midfield player Clarence Seedorf, who also appeared in the 2002 team. Colleague Kaká with 220,333 votes received the highest number of votes overall and is selected for a second successive year, this time as attacking midfielder. Also surviving from last year’s team is Steven Gerrard, who is selected for a third time, and is the only player from beaten UEFA Champions League finalists Liverpool FC to feature. English clubs are to the fore, though, with John Terry – selected in 2005 – and newcomer Didier Drogba from Chelsea FC joined by Cristiano Ronaldo, whose previous selection came in 2004. His Manchester United FC coach Sir Alex Ferguson is perhaps belatedly selected for the first time, recognition of his achievement in guiding his team a ninth Premier League title under his stewardship. Another somewhat belated newcomer is Real Madrid CF goalkeeper Iker Casillas, while Sevilla FC right-back Daniel Alves, FC Barcelona left-back Eric Abidal and FC Internazionale Milano striker Zlatan Ibrahimović are also selected for the first time. -

Netherlands to keep producing top players English.news.cn 2011-07-27 21:52:18 FeedbackPrintRSS THE HAGUE, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Dutch specialists believed that the Netherlands will keep producing top soccer players in the foreseeable future, based on the country's efficient youth training system. Just one year ago the Netherlands advanced to the FIFA World Cup final in South Africa. Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie are the names of the current stars of the national team. They are the successors of stars from the past football legends like Johan Cruijff, Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit and Dennis Bergkamp. Wim van Zwam has been working as coach for the Dutch football association KNVB for almost ten years. Currently he is coach of the Under 19 team, responsible for the development of the youth plan Netherlands and instructor of the UEFA Pro Course. "We don't have any secrets, we just have a clear vision about how to develop football," he told Xinhua on Wednesday. "We have a vision on the game of football, the organization of youth leagues, on coach education, on player development and on team development. Very few countries have a real vision on football. That's why we are ahead of a lot of other countries." "We are good because of the structure and because of the way we think as a country. We always stick to our plan in developing football. From the Under 15 team to the Under 21's. The aim of the game must always be winning, even for the Under 8 kids," Van Zwam explained. -

Previous meetings • The sides' only fixtures before Matchday 1 came in the 2015/16 group stage, Madrid winning 4-0 at home and 4-3 away. Karim Benzema opened the scoring at the Santiago Bernabéu, with Modrić and Dani Carvajal both on target in Lviv; Madrid's other five goals across the two games all came from Cristiano Ronaldo, Dentinho scoring one of Shakhtar's goals. -
