Arctic Tundra
The Arctic Tundra is characterised by very cold temperatures and generally dry conditions. Temperatures never rise above 50 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer.
(Don’t mind my finger in the bottom) Polar Bears
Polar bears usually eat ringed or bearded seals. On occasion, they also kill beluga whales and young walruses. To camouflage, they have their white fur to blend in with the snow. Since it is really cold in the Arctic Tundra, they have black skin that absorbs the sun’s heat, white fur that help them dry off, a layer of fat to keep them warm, and webbed feet. Arctic Tundra
The word ‘tundra’ comes from a Finnish word tunturia, which means treeless plain or barren land. The tundra is also a very fragile biome that is shrinking as the permafrost melts. Final Photo
The permafrost, barren landscape, and cold/dry climate are all important characteristics of the Arctic Tundra. The Arctic Tundras thin layer of topsoil thaws during the summer months, but beneath that the ground is permanently frozen. The Arctic Tundra is found across Alaska, Canada, and Siberia. This biome as short cool summers and long cold winters. It also has low precipitation (less than 10 inches per year) and dry winds. These conditions make the Arctic Tundra a desert-like climate.
