(Mollusca: Gastropoda). – Spixiana 30/1: 121-125 The higher systematics of the family Ovulidae is reorganised on the basis of re- cently published studies of the radulae, shell and animal morphology and the 16S rRNA gene. The family is divided into four subfamilies. Two new subfamilîes are introduced as Prionovolvinae nov. and Aclyvolvinae nov. The apomorphism and the result of the study of the 16S rRNA gene are contro- versally concerning the Pediculariidae. Therefore, the Pediculariidae are excluded as subfamily from the Ovulidae. New records of the rare gastropods Erato voluta and Simnia patula, and first record of Simnia hiscocki from Norway. Fauna norvegica 37: 20-24. New records of rare gastropod species are reported. A live specimen of Erato voluta (Gastropoda: Triviidae), a species considered to have a far more southern distribution, has been found from outside the Trondheimsfjord. The specimen was sampled from a gravel habitat with Modiolus shells at 49–94 m depth, and was found among compound ascidians, its typical food resource. Live specimens of Simnia patula (Caenogastropoda: Ovulidae) have during the later years repeatedly been observed on locations on the coast of central Norway, which is documented by in situ observations. In Egersund on the southwest coast of Norway a specimen of Simnia hiscocki was in March 2017 observed for the first time from Norwegian waters, a species earlier only found on the south-west coast of England. Also this was documented by pictures and in situ observations. The specimen of Simnia hiscocki was for the first time found on the octocoral Swiftia pallida. doi: 10.5324/fn.v37i0.2160. Our history The NTNU University Museum has its origins in the Norwegian Royal Society of Sciences and Letters (DKNVS), which was founded in 1760. The museum is based on the first organized scientific collections in Norway. The Storting (Norwegian Parliament) resolved to form the University of Trondheim in 1968, and the museum was transferred to the University on 1 April 1984. Further reorganization after 1 January 1996 led to the establishment of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). In 2005, the NTNU University Museum was raised to the same level as the university faculties, with representation on the Council of Deans and the University Research Committee. Our vision The NTNU University Museum embraces the world! Our role The NTNU University Museum develops and communicates knowledge of nature, culture, and science. (max 20 word): Preliminary tittel: Kort beskrivelse av oppgaven (max 300 word): Short description of the Obesity is a major risk factor for lifestyle diseases. Lifestyle is affecting severity of project: chronic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases and rheumatism. Common symptom between obesity, lifestyle and chronic disease is inflammation (1,2). Investigations regarding molecular mechanisms of inflammation will give insights on how different aspects of lifestyle, hormonal responses, e.g. insulin, will affect disease progression and severity (3,4). Hormones under study include cytokines, insulin, chemokines, eicosanoids and adipokines. Model systems: Synoviocytes, cellular model for rheumatoid arthritis; Monocytes, cellular model for white blood cells. Possible master theses: 1) Characterization of insulin signaling in synoviocytes 2) Characterization of adipokin signaling in synoviocytes 3) Characterization of microRNA as a regulatory mechanism of synoviocyte biology 4) Characterisation of TLR2/4-induced responses, and possible involvement of cPLA2 in an osteoclast cell model 5) Metabolomics detection human samples (collaboration with Dr Jens Rohloff) 6) Systems biology of human intervention samples (collaboration with Prof. Martin Kuiper. Revidert i 2008 av Erling Bakken og Ingunn Bakketeig. 2 Havforskningsinstituttet i dag Havforskningsinstituttets oppgaver Havforskningsinstituttets visjon er ”Kunnskap og råd for rike og rene hav- og kystområder”. Dette betyr at vi skal utføre forskningsoppdrag som kan gi myndig- heter, næring og samfunn et bredt og pålitelig grunnlag for forvaltning av våre marine økosystemer. Målet for forvaltningen er å verne det marine miljøet og sikre et langsiktig, godt utbytte fra fiskebestandene, andre levende ressurser og fra havbruket. Økosystemene og miljøforholdene krever at en slik forvaltning baseres på et utstrakt internasjonalt samarbeid, både på forsker- og myndighetsnivå. En viktig del av forskningen er rettet mot bestander som danner grunnlaget for norske fiskerier. Ved å overvåke endringer og stadig forbedre kunnskapen, blir beregninger av bestandenes produksjon mer pålitelig og forvaltningen derfor bedre. Miljøforskningen har også en bred plass, både for å overvåke klimatiske endringer og kjemisk forurensning, og for å undersøke hvordan dette kan påvirke livs- vilkårene for levende marine ressurser. I utviklingen av norsk havbruk bidrar Havforskningsinstituttet med ny, grunn- leggende biologisk kunnskap om laksefisk, marine arter og skalldyr. Her inngår bl.a. genetikk, fysiologi, fiskevelferd og fiskehelse. Andre forskningsoppgaver omfatter økosystemet i kystsonen, bunndyrsamfunn på kontinentalsokkelen og fangstteknologi. Forskningen ved Havforskningsinstituttet blir initiert og finansiert gjennom fem forsknings- og rådgivingsprogram og fem rene forskningsprogram. Forskningen utføres i 19 faggrupper. -

(Tove Nielsen: Nei dessverre ... Apollon 7 (2000).) Forord Peter Waage er den mest berømte norske kjemiker på 1800-tallet. Takket være massevirkningsloven lever hans navn videre i kjemibøker over hele verden. Han kom fra Hidra - en liten øy mellom Øst- og Vestlandet som den gang, da trafikken gikk lettere til sjøs enn på land, var mer internasjonal enn Christiania. Hva slags mann var han? Hva er egentlig massevirkningsloven? Hva gjorde han ellers? Kjemien hadde sin storhetstid på 1800-tallet. Da fikk kjemien sitt eget språk hvor de kjemiske symbolene for grunnstoffene var bokstavene, formlene var ordene og reaksjonsligningene var setningene. Analysemetodene ble forbedret og mange nye stoffer ble fremstilt. -
