John Finnemorewriter and star of Cabin Pressureregular guest on The Now Show and popper-up in things like Miranda and That Mitchell And Webb Look returns with half an hour of his own sketches, John Finnemores Souvenir Programme funnier than the last. Although, hang on, that system means starting the whole series with the least funny sketch. Might need to rethink that. OK, it's a show filled with John Finnemores Souvenir Programme written and performed by John Finnemorebut now no longer arranged in strict order of funniness. Also, he's cut the sketch that would have gone first. John promises to stop doing silly sketches about nonsense like Winnie the Pooh's honey addiction or how goldfish invented computer programming, and concentrate instead on the big, serious issues: why do posh men's trousers turn red when they get drunk? Is it possible to collect all the stamps? And who invented the little tripod thing you get in pizza boxes? In each series John intends to write more sketches, like the sketches from the other series. Not so much like them that they feel stale and repetitious; but on the other hand not John Finnemores Souvenir Programme different that it feels like a misguided attempt to completely change the show. Quite like the old John Finnemores Souvenir Programme, in other words, but about different things and with different jokes although it's a pretty safe bet some of them will involve talking animals. Cabin Pressure is set in the wing and a prayer world of a tiny, one-plane charter airline, staffed by two pilots—one on his way down, and one who was never up to start with. Whether flying a cat to Abu Dhabi, dealing with a nervous bassoonist, hunting for a cleverly-hidden Cabin Pressure: A- Z: The BBC Radio 4 Airline Sitcom, or attempting to celebrate Christmas in seven minutes, no job is too small, but many, many jobs are too difficult. Carolyn Knapp-Shappey, MJN Air's formidable boss, has employed two of the very cheapest pilots money can buy: Captain Martin Crieff, who's always wanted to fly and won't let a little thing like lack of ability stop him, and First Officer Douglas Richardson, smooth-voiced old sky-god and eternal schemer. Passenger service is provided by the relentlessly cheery Arthur. Review " Cabin Pressure is one of the best written, cast, acted and directed comedies on anywhere. Overall increases were seen across all devices, most notably on mobile devices. • The increases across devices were mostly driven by radio requests, which increased by 15% in January compared to December, as people returned to their regular routines after the Christmas break. • One-off episode Sherlock The Abominable Bride was by far the most popular TV title in January, delivering over 2.3 million requests. Other New Years Day episodes proved particularly popular, with EastEnders and Billionaire Boy both also available on BBC iPlayer from that day. • BBC iPlayer’s exclusive comedy-drama film The Rack Pack made it into the top 20 most requested titles in January, in its first two weeks of availability. It continues to perform strongly with close to 1 million requests in total, making it the most successful BBC iPlayer Original to date • Radio comedy I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue and The News Quiz were the top performing episodes in BBC iPlayer Radio in January. Poirot, Test Match Cricket and regular series The Archers also did well. Consistent with previous months: • The profile of BBC iPlayer users has evened out over time in terms of male/female ratio, but remains strongly under- 55 in terms of age, which is younger than the typical TV viewer or radio listener’s profile (although more in line with home broadband users).
