GALERIE LÉLIA MORDOCH | PARIS Pia MYrvoLD, WANDS, 2015, première génération de sculptures intelligentes © Pia MYrvoLD Pia MYrvoLD | Créer l’hybride 22 septembre - 28 octobre 17 vernissage jeudi 21 septembre (18h-21h) Artiste exploratrice de l’art numérique, Pia MYrvoLD conçoit des sculptures intelligentes. WANDS est la première génération de ces sculptures interactives, totems anthropomorphes suspendus, qui pro- duisent de la lumière, de la musique ou projettent des images alentour. Grâce à leur programmation et à des capteurs intégrés, les œuvres réagissent à la présence humaine et leur comportement varie selon le mouvement, la température ou le nombre de personnes. Avec plusieurs vidéos et de grands tirages photographiques, l’exposition présente également les recherches récentes de cette artiste norvégienne sur les formes et les environnements virtuels, ainsi que quelques pièces plus anciennes. Dans Transforming Venus (2012), la déesse de l’amour, symbole de maternité, devient un artefact dont la forme évolue jusqu’à s’évanouir. Interactives ou immersives, toujours pluridisciplinaires, les œuvres aux surfaces multiples de Pia MYrvoLD jouent avec la dualité des espaces réels et virtuels dans un panache de couleurs, de sons et de fantaisie. Depuis les années 1980, elle explore et combine tous types de médias : peinture, son, vidéo, photo, cybercouture et nouvelles technologies. Ses recherches expérimentales en arts visuels tissent un pont interdisciplinaire entre le numérique et l’art, la mode, le design, la performance ou la musique, dans des projets hybrides comme Art Attack (1985), Post Machine (1998) ou Cyber Wear (2002). En 1992, elle réalise Urban Upwind, une architecture de tissu composée de motifs urbains reliant sur 500 mètres les Folies de Bernard Tschumi dans le parc de La villette. Montrée au Centre Pompidou (Ecoute, 2004), Female Interfaces faisait défiler 15 mannequins équipés de capteurs de sons et de voix pour une performance interactive de cybermode. Présentée en 2014 au Studio 13/16 du Centre Pompidou, Art Avatar, une installation immersive sous la forme de quatre interfaces interactives, invitait le public à réaliser un avatar à partir des sculptures numériques de l’artiste et à interagir avec lui. Je me souviens de ces photographies de 2009 intitulées New Code. Des corps nus photographiés flottaient alors dans toutes les positions possibles au milieu de curieuses matières des origines de l’humanité faites de surimpressions, de paysages aquatiques et de squelettes préhistoriques. Avec le virtuel les corps sont désormais d’une abstraction toute organique. Mais l’in- vention de Vénus avait entraîné dès 2010 des études et des projections de vidéos sur des écrans multiples. Les pratiques sont donc à la fois hybridées, mais toujours différenciées. A l’époque du nu- mérique, Pia MYrvoLD choisit la richesse et la complexité des possibles technologiques et humains. Elle en joue même (…) Je regarde Expandium une dernière fois. Des formes-membranes d’un gris métallique interne ou externe, une sculpture fluide et animée qui explose, des fragments se dispersent et une forme batik défile comme une planète ou un soleil.
