PORT AUTHORITY OF FERROL-SAN CIBRAO

Our Port is a symbol of economic and social development for our region. And this is why we approach management with a high sense of responsibility as well as with a great enthusiasm to face our future challenges in cooperation with our human resources and with the rest of our partners. We are living in an extremely complexed environment in which our greatest investment endeavours for the extension of our facilities go hand in hand with major significant changes in world economy, in international business, and in the role played by Ports. In this context, our Port has occupied first place within the region and increased its share in traffic along the entire Atlantic coast of Spain, thus being able to offer services that allow it to stand head to head with the best in terms of facilities, prices, services and management models.

Jose Manuel Vilariño Anca Alejandro Rey Seoane President of APFSC Director of APFSC

We therefore start off with a solid foundation for facing our major challenges in the future: the commissioning of the container terminal, connecting the outer harbour to the railway network and taking a lead in natural gas supply to ships. In this way, we will be able to maximise our results with a triple purpose: obtaining a maximum performance of our resulting port capacity, diversifying our activity into business lines that will have a greater economical and social impact on our region and reducing the carbon footprint of the land and sea transport related to our traffic. Our ambitious project -which we drafted in 2007- to develop our Port from a regional activity to a reference point in the Atlantic coast is becoming a reality. In this Annual report of 2015, we introduce an all-in-one complete and transparent document concerning our strategy, our projects, our offer, management and social, economic, and environmental performance. We hope that the content of this document will provide a better understanding of the Port to all our stakeholders.

Our relationship with society 1929-1931

In our function as a port, we strive to become a role model on the European Atlantic coast by improving our range of port services and land connections in order to facilitate the mobility of people and goods, thus allowing for the long-term sustainability of our industrial fabric and making our region an attractive location for the settlement of new economic activities.

We achieve this by regulating the conditions in which such activities are carried out -exploitation, economic activity, safety, environment, quality, etc. and by obtaining reports from other public entities whenever such activities have a special impact on the environment or on safety, etc. We set forth the requirements to be complied with by companies, individual business people and public entities who wish to develop their activities in our service area: technical and professional solvency, solvency in terms of finance, personnel and job stability, financial reports, etc. We will provide information on our website as well as in our offices to any company or individual who wishes to consult our conditions and requirements regarding procedures, applicable fees and ongoing processes. The presence of our facilities in a total of 17 municipalities entails that we are also responsible for valuing those areas intended for public use; this will allow our neighbours and any other citizens who come to use 1992 them to form part of a centre for leisure, sport and cultural activities as well as providing an appealing tourist attraction on our coastline and a greater economic and social development for the future.

We have an exhibitions hall in which local artists may exhibit their work. We certified 289 thousand Euros for the port-city interface in 2015.

In 2015 we complete the dock of Curuxeiras with an investment of 1.44 million Euros. This will cater to the specially sensitive needs of the town of Ferrol such as the fishing sector and will also coincide with the rehabilitation and extension works carried out on the fish market (1 million Euros). Recreational boating and tourism will also benefit from our projects and thus provide a noticeable improvement for the cruiser ship docking area located near the town’s old quarters.

Several agreements were made to regulate the joint activities carried out by neighbours’ associations, public entities, the academic sector and other social agents. These agreements are available on the website of the Spanish Government Transparency Portal. Fish market at the Port of Ferrol and Curuxeiras dock. Year 1992. Photographer: Rodrigo . Ardal. Citizens help us to improve our common relationship by giving their opinions and submitting complaints and suggestions about the lines of action developed in our strategies. In the year 2015 we received a 2016 total of 18 complaints on behalf of sports associations, neighbours’ associations and individual citizens, which were replied to with the construction of a boarding pontoon, the installation of a hazard sign and paving for a public car park.

In 2015 and for the third consecutive year, we measured the perception of the different social agents concerning the actions taken by the Port Authority regarding society and its value offer.
