Chairman’s Foreword

Welcome to the Tidworth Area Board Newsletter. The Board meets every two months, providing an opportunity for local people to hear presentations on current topics, updates from our partners, issues raised by the community and current consultations. Our last meeting was held on Monday 21st May at Collingbourne Ducis Village Hall. The meeting heard from Karen Scott, Voluntary Development Manager from Council about work being carried out to increase the numbers of people volunteering in Wiltshire and the initiatives being developed to support them. One such initiative is the Time Credits Scheme, whereby new volunteers giving up an hour of their time can obtain a time credit which they will be able to exchange for an hour in the gym, leisure centre or other activity. The scheme is in the early days of its development, however it is planned to extend the scheme to the Tidworth Community Area over the next few months.

The meeting also heard from Service Director Alistair Cunningham on options for the future delivery of informal education in Wiltshire and from James Fortune and Wendy Higginson on actions to increase the number of people volunteering to support the delivery of youth services. The area board awarded the sum of £980 to Tidworth Community Area Partnership for printing of the new community plan survey. Councillor Chris Williams, Chairman

Community Area Grants- new funding available

Tidworth Area Board has funding available to support local community projects. Awards will be made at each area board meeting as funds allow. The maximum award is £5,000 for which projects would need to have match funding in place, however for smaller applications up to £1,000 there is no match funding requirement.

The emphasis this year is on supporting local community groups and organisations rather than organisations that can raise funds by other means, so please encourage your local community groups and organisations to bring projects forward.

This year the area board has set aside £10,000 for projects that support vulnerable families, as this was a key issue identified in the Joint Strategic Assessment for our area.

All the information you need, including application forms is available on our website at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/areaboards or contact your Community Area Manager, Mary Cullen on 01722 434260 for further information. Please remember the application deadline is usually 6 weeks before meetings.

We work closely with the Charities Information Bureau who can help you identify other suitable sources of funding for your projects. Go to http://www.cibsouthandwest.org.uk

Join us at our next area board meeting

The next meeting of Tidworth Area Board will be on Monday 16th July at Enford Village Hall, starting at 7pm with tea and coffee from 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome and we look forward to seeing you there!

Diamond Jubilee and Olympics 2012

Last year, Tidworth Area Board made available a pot of funding of up to £11,000 to enable local town and parish councils to put on events and activities to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and Olympics 2012. Town and Parish Councils responded enthusiastically to the offer and there will be photographs and reports of their Jubilee activities at the next area board meeting in Enford on 16th July.

Tidworth Area Board also provided funding to enable the Town Council’s to celebrate the arrival of the Olympic Torch through our area. The Olympic torch will be coming to Ludgershall and then Tidworth on the afternoon of 11th July and both Town

Council’s have plans in place to celebrate this historic event in style. For full details of all the exciting things planned, please visit the Tidworth Community Area Partnership website at www.tidworthcommunityarea.info

 Youth Initiatives Funding

The area board has been awarded a new allocation of Youth Initiatives Funding this financial year. The sum of around £6,000 is available to support projects for young people.

The area board has decided to target this funding at Transport for young people as this was another priority identified in the Joint Strategic Assessment for our area.

Applications will be taken at each area board meeting as funding allows.

Please contact your Community Area Manager, Mary Cullen on 01722 434260 for further information.

Update from Police

Inspector Christian Lange reported to the last meeting of Tidworth Area Board that Aaron Hay started as the new Safer Schools Partnership Officer at Wellington Academy and will be a welcome addition to the team at Tidworth Police Station.

He also reported that ‘victim based crime’ reduced by 13 % in the same period as last year and that violent crime had fallen by 20%.

Local police have executed 5 warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act since the start of the year and whilst there has been a slight rise in the number of Domestic Burglaries since last year, the numbers remain small in our area.

Reports of Anti-Social behaviour have seen some increase however local police are working with partners to address this.
