“Mission Script” Was a Language Developed As Tool to Create Simple Missions Within the READY Geo-Mobile Gaming Platform at Google’S Area 120 Incubator “Mission Script” was a language developed as tool to create simple missions within the READY geo-mobile gaming platform at Google’s Area 120 incubator. Before the project’s untimely cancellation, these missions, along with a diverse roster from other interactive fiction authors, were playtested at locations around Los Angeles to demonstrate the variety of genres the platform could theoretically support. Conceived as a conversational, text-based interface, READY hoped to give players the chance to navigate their neighborhood on foot with the aid of a character guide, either to explore a fictional recontextualization, acquaint themselves with the space’s real history, or as a physical joystick through waypoints of a fantasy realm. Included here, the “West Would” trilogy of missions begins as a simple historical tour through the UCLA area and grows into an opportunity to connect with the player’s unseen host. The “Quiz-Me Land” mission was created to test the viability of geo-mobile trivia games. Finally, “Cafe Gratitude” was a comedic attempt to lead players, through the course of play, to a promotional partner location. KENT BINGHAM’S HISTORY WITH DISNEY This history was started when a friend asked me a question regarding “An Abandoned Disney Park”: THE QUESTION From: pinpointnews [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2016 3:07 AM To: Kent Bingham Subject: Photographer Infiltrates Abandoned Disney Park - Coast to Coast AM http://www.coasttocoastam.com/pages/photographer-infiltrates-abandoned-disney-park Could the abandoned island become an OASIS PREVIEW CENTER??? NOTE I and several of my friends have wanted to complete the EPCOT vision as a city where people could live and work. We have been looking for opportunities to do this for the last 35 years, ever since we completed EPCOT at Disney World on October 1, 1983. We intend to do this in a small farming community patterned after the life that Walt and Roy experienced in Marceline, Missouri, where they lived from 1906-1910. They so loved their life in Marceline that it became the inspiration for Main Street in Disneyland. We will call our town an OASIS VILLAGE. It will become a showcase and a preview center for all of our OASIS TECHNOLOGIES. We are on the verge of doing this, but first we had to invent the OASIS MACHINE. You can learn all about it by looking at our website at www.oasis-system.com . There you will learn that the OM provides water and energy (at minimum cost) that will allow people to grow their own food. This machine is a real drought buster, and will be in demand all over the world. This will provide enough income for us to build our OVs in many locations.

  • 3D Disneyland: a Primer by David A. Bossert My First Introduction, Like Many I'm Sure, to Stereoscopic Or 3D Photography Was T
3D Disneyland: A Primer By David A. Bossert (3D Disneyland: Like You’ve Never Seen It Before with a sampling of some of the pages from the book. The Old Mill Press, 2020.) My first introduction, like many I’m sure, to Stereoscopic or 3D photography was through a GAF Viewmaster when I was about twelve-years-old. That red and white plastic viewer transported me to far-off places allowing me to see the wonders of the world in glorious three- dimensional space. At the time, it was the closest I could get to being there in person. The Viewmaster took those enchanting places and magnificent, one-of-a-kind landmarks like Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower beyond the flat, two-dimensional picture in a book or magazine and brought them to life. Dropping a round disc, containing seven pairs of photos, into that handheld viewer turned my bedroom into a global sightseeing tour, and it was thrilling. That small plastic device, some called a toy, opened up a whole new world for me. The most fascinating part was the simple science behind replicating how we see everything around us. Stereoscopic or 3D photography has been around since the invention of the camera and film. By the 1850s, stereoscopic images were on display in many middle-class homes. As photography matured and became more accessible to the masses, stereo photography grew in popularity. Although stereo photography has gone in and out of favor, it has always been a specialized part of photography for the professional and a luxury for the hobbyist.

  • Master Thesis
Master Thesis Uli Meyer Virtual environments - a sensorimotor framework for perceptual design Faculty of Design, Media and Information - Department of Media Technology Time-dependent media: Sound, Vision, Games Uli Meyer Virtual environments - a sensorimotor framework for perceptual design Master Thesis HAW Hamburg Department of Media Technology Faculty of Design, Media and Information - Time-dependent media: Sound, Vision, Games Supervisors: Prof. Dr. Boris Tolg Dr. Susanne Draheim Hamburg, Germany, April 2018 Abstract Understanding the parameters and underlying rules of perception of high quality, complex VR environments has become more important since the availability of consumer market, real-time rendered VR applications. VR is a medium that strongly affects the body, and due to its medium specificity, creates an experience of place illusion (Slater, 2009) that poses unique challenges for the environment designer. The study develops a sensorimotor framework for the underlying rules of perception, or sensorimotor contingencies, and the basic parameters, or sensorimotor affordances, of VR environments. It integrates the framework with a model of perceptual design (Ward, 2015), by describing how environmental affordances create information, simulation and spatial-temporal structuring in VR environments. The study shows that the framework can be used to plan and analyse different types of complex VR environments, both for scientific purposes and for day-to-day design decision. It can help to clarify research questions, and integrate existing and future research on VR environments. Keywords: virtual reality, virtual environments, sensorimotor contingencies, affordances, perceptual design, conceptual metaphor. Acknowledgments First of all my thanks go to my supervisors, Prof. Dr. Boris Tolg, SIMLab, Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Applied Sciences (HAW), Hamburg, and to Dr.

  • Walt Disney, the 1964-65 World's Fair, and the Emergence of Audio
Walt Disney, the 1964-65 World's Fair, and the Emergence of Audio-Animatronics An Honors Thesis (HONR 499) by Stephanie Sink Ball State University Muncie, Indiana March 2015 Expected Date of Graduation May 2015 2 Abstract The World's Fair of 1964/65 held in Flushing Meadows, New York was a fascinating event when ideas and technology were brought together in a world showcase. With company sponsorships from corporations represented at the fair, the Disney Company was able to research and experiment with new technologies that, in turn, transformed the modern amusement park. Disney greatly influenced the World's Fair, and the World's Fair greatly influenced the Disney Company. Audio-animatronics technology was perfected during the Fair, and has now become a staple of the modern amusement park. The attractions that Disney created for the World's Fair were incorporated into both Disneyland and later Disney World, and even helped shape EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community ofTomorrow) Center. The World's Fair of 1964-65 provided an unprecedented opportunity to develop new technology at little or no cost to the Disney Company. This reciprocal relationship benefited both the Fair and the Disney Company, which continues to affect amusement parks today. 3 Acknowledgements I would like to thank my family for their support of my research and research activities. I would also like to thank Professor Geelhoed for advising me through this project. His help on research and revision is greatly appreciated. 4 Introduction The World's Fair of 1964 -1965 brought together the culture and technology of a new age into a world showcase.

Baxter, Walt Disney Imagineering’s Senior Vice President of Creative Development, knew he needed to base the roller coaster on an Old West theme. The Magic Kingdom, Disneyland’s younger sibling in Florida, was developing a ride using the landscape of Utah’s Monument Valley. “I went to National Geographic [Magazine], as we always do, to look for something else,” he says. “And I found a feature article on Bryce Canyon in Utah.” What he found within the piece—which might have been William Belknap Jr.’s 1958 article “Nature Carves Fantasies in Bryce Canyon” or Ralph Gray’s 1964 article “Sea to Shining Mountains”—was a fanciful national park that seemed to be a perfect model for the ride he was designing as Disneyland’s Chief Designer in the late 1970s. “The first paragraph of that article says, ‘When you come upon Bryce Canyon, you are going to be astounded to find something that looks like it was created by Walt Disney,’” Baxter says.
