After the tour, we reviewed the dif- ferent elements of Glendale’s urban interface: topogra- phy, weather, vegetation and development. MATH FUN Contributed by Capt. Ed Ackerman Question: What is the engine pressure for relay pumping 350’ of 4” hose to an engine flowing 1,200 GPM?

Submit your answers by email to Mike Matlock. The successful math wizards who showed how they got their answers will be announced in next month’s newsletter.

Last Month’s Question: What is the engine pres- sure for 300' of 4" hose supplying a ladder pipe with a 1 3/4” tip? Answer: Ladder pipe FL + back flow = 80 psi 1 3/4” top (800 gpm) = 80 psi 4” friction loss @ 14 psi x 300’ = 42 psi Total engine pressure = 202 psi
