11/04/2015 HOME KIRKBY LONSDALE 18/04/2015 AWAY ECCLES 12 PRESIDENT - CARLISLE RFC 13

A warm welcome to Warwick Road for the match today. It give me very great pleasure to welcome my opposite number from the visiting club, and his colleagues, and I trust CLUB PRESIDENT they will enjoy their stay with us. - apart from the obvious - the result. Geoff Jackson An equally warm welcome to the match sponsor today. Your generosity is very much appreciated and I know the club as a whole is grateful for your support. The foregoing also applies to the match ball sponsor.

The referee is an important part of any fixture, and without him / her we would not be able to enjoy our sport. Have a great game.

Running a rugby club becomes more expensive year on year and the support of every- one is a vital ingredient if progress is to be made and maintained. Without massive change to our structure, and large injections of cash, we must make every effort to retain and improve what we have, with any long term ambitions never to far from our thoughts.

The club will always be greater than any person, or any one team and it is incumbent on all of us , and that includes players both young and old, to make a contribution to the overall welfare of the organisation. After all it is a team game, and much more satisfaction can be had from working as a team, both on and off the field!

It’s great to see that the premises are a great hive of activity most nights of the week, and special praise is due to all those coaches and administrators at all levels, who give up an enormous amount of free time for the benefit of our young folk, boys and girls alike.

Thank you all for your esteemed support and enjoy the game. I look forward to meet- INSIDE THIS ISSUE ing you all in the bars after the match.

Geoff Jackson  SORRY, BUT THERE IS NO INDEXING IN THIS ISSUE OF President THE MATCH PROGRAMME.

CLUB CAR PARKING FACILITIES

 Note please the club car park is for use when USING the club facilities.

 The car park is not a cheap option to avoid paying to park in the city centre.

 Car park gates may be locked from time to time at night. KEEP UP TO DATE WITH ALL THE RFU NEWS @ TOUCHLINE - www.englandrugby.com

13 14 RESPECT YOUR CLUB

We are all proud of our facilities here at Warwick Road. They are ex- pensive to maintain and your help and assistance to keep the fields and buildings in good order would be appreciated. Apart from being dangerous to anyone playing rugby or training, foreign objects left lying around the fields can cause untold damage to machinery.

All coaches, players, managers and spectators are asked to ensure that objects and litter are not left littered around the ground. PLEASE DON’T COMPROMISE SAFETY.

Obviously, the same applies to the clubhouse, changing rooms, the grandstand and all ancillary equipment. Thanks for your assistance.

Whilst every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the contents of the programme, it may not always be the official view of Carlisle RFC

WHISTLE BLOWING GIVE IT A TRY RESPECT THE REFEREE

There is a serious shortage of folk As always the match referee is very welcome at Carlisle. Without the referee we would not prepared to referee and whilst the be able to enjoy the Game. The referee deserves respect at all times and there is no place local Cumbria Society are doing for any form of abuse to be directed at the referee, either on or off the field. Players regu- their best to cover fixtures, it is not larly make mistakes, and the match official is not perfect and he / she too will not always get always possible. it right. If the referee does make an error of judgement that should never the signal for abuse from Carlisle do their fair share and we a player, coach, official or a spectator. supply a number of referees right through the spectrum. More are Remember that, in almost all cases the referee is a volunteer and provides a service to the needed. Interested, then contact game so that we can all enjoy it. People wanting to referee are in short supply, and one of the reasons given for the shortage of volunteers is, alleged abuse. the local referee society - details can be found on the Cumbria RFU PLEASE RESPECT THE REFEREE AT ALL TIMES. website. The playing enclosure is out of bounds at all times except to those authorised to be there by the game regulations. Spectators are asked to remain behind the barriers (where they exist), and where pitches do not have a permanent barrier, you are requested to stand well back from the touch line. This will allow the touch judge to officiate without hindrance, and also reduce the probability of injury to any player or spectator in the event of a collision!

Whilst people are free to encourage their team it is expected that supporters will use mod- erate language so as not to intimidate or offend others. There have been instances, par- ticularly at junior and youth games, where there has been encroachment on the field, or dubious verbal encouragement from parents. This is not a good example to set. Lads and lasses need the freedom to express themselves on the field of play without any undue in- timidation from the sidelines.

Carlisle RFC will not hesitate to take appropriate action where necessary, Have a great day, 14 14 15

MUMBLINGS RUGBY DIRECTOR Martin Plummer* It can all become a bit repetitive as the season works through. It all began YOUTH/JUNIOR CHAIRMAN Ben full of hope and expectation. In the opening weeks some of those anticipa- Blain tions were satisfied, with results generally going our way, and exciting dis- plays of rugby pleasing the eye. Lately, things have not been as great as we HEAD COACH Gary Hewer might have expected, and it is all too easy to seek to allocate blame. But, that CLUB MANAGER Bryan Dent

is not the way forward. As we all know it is a team game, and that is not just GROUNDSMAN Greg Bacon for players and coaches, it’s for all of us who are interested in the Game. The *board member players and the coaching staff have given of their best throughout the season so far, and there is no reason to doubt that the same commitment will be on show for what remains of the season. Injuries to a number of key players has not been helpful along the way; the same will apply at other clubs, and all have to make do and mend.

Dedication, commitment and working for one another in the remaining games will go along way to help; yes, there are some clubs snapping at our heels that keeps us looking over our shoulders, but we have to keep faith. We still have a blend in the playing squad that has more than a sprinkling of youth and inexperience, but we have to live with and persevere with that.

There will be those of us who may select a team to reflect personal views, but we have a coaching staff to do that, and they deserve our support, even if we might disagree with their selections from time to time! Keep up the effort - it will be worth it in the end. 15 15 16 GALLERY

YOUTH & JUNIOR RUGBY GALLERY

A polite note with a request to parents, coaches, and indeed all spectators.

The kids appreciate support and encouragement during games but there have been occasions both at Carlisle and elsewhere, when over enthusiasm has got in the way of common sense, and may have compromised the lads on the field.

Be careful what you say, who you say it to;

Don’t berate the referee or officials;

Stand well back from the touch line, behind the barriers if there are any, and do not, under any circumstances, enter the field of play.

Thanks in anticipation of you help.

Not sure though who the (un) lucky lady is! BILL GLENDINNING has been dragged, kicking and screaming, into the role of primary webmaster for the website. Thanks Bill. Hope that the increase in winter vomiting virus and food poisoning cases has nothing to do with the fact that supreme chef HARRY MARSHALL has been knocking around town lately. COLIN JACKSON has been having some sleepless nights since buying a pup as a Christmas present. Now the ex- cuses are stretching to losing sleep after letting the dog out dur- ing the night. Well done Andrea, keep up the good work! News has filtered through in the last couple of days of the death of JACK HAMER. Jack, who lived in Lymm, was the secretary of Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Club for many years, but was perhaps was better known as a rather controversial Cumbria representa- tive on the RFU North Competitions Committee. Get well soon, we’re rooting for you lad. Great to see MIKE LAIDLAW out and about again. Was at the club last Sunday lending his support to youth rugby. Having had a new knee and a new hip in pretty quick time, it was to tell as he was walking again with great confi- dence. Whilst nothing has yet been finally decided, the out- come of the RFU Adult Competition review is still on hold. Cumbria - Player Movement Policy

Cumbria Rugby Union is committed to the long term sustainability of their clubs. A sig- nificant threat to sustainability is the practice known as player poaching. Sanctions may be imposed on any club found guilty of engaging in this practice.

1. Within the jurisdiction of Cumbria RU It is an offence for any representative of, or person acting on behalf of a club to make an unsolicited approach to a player of another club inciting him/her to leave his/her current club and join another.

2. The player involved should report this approach to a member of their club’s general committee as soon as possible, but within 14 days of the alleged con- tact. The club will then have a further 14 days to outline details of the ap- proach, in writing, to the Cumbria RU Disciplinary Panel for further action.

Sanctions available to the Disciplinary Panel

o Removal of League Points

o A club fine

o Removal of entry to CB Cup Competitions

o RFU Support – i.e. Funding & Facility Applications

Best Practice and what is permitted.

· A player may approach an official of another club that he wishes to join, to discuss this issue. This may be done openly or in confidence.

· Prior to a club approaching a player of another club, they must first notify that club of their intentions.

· The club official approached should make a private note of the contact and provide details to the club secretary.

· Prior to completing any formalities with a new club, a player intending to move should inform his/her current club of their plans and reasoning for a proposed move. This provides the current club with an opportunity to identify if there is a retention issue that can be resolved.

· A representative of the potential new club should then make contact with the current club to discuss an approach with the appropriate club contact.

· Coaching CB Squads is not to be used as a means of recruitment of players for a coach’s ‘home’ club. The Head Coach/Manager of a representative squad should ensure that all coaches stay impartial at all times.

The Committee of Cumbria RFU at their Special General Meeting held at Penrith RFC on Thursday January 25th resolved that the above policy be adopted. Under Cum- bria RFU Rule 4.12 it iis now binding on all members from that date.

Sorry no news submitted for publication.

Crusaders are away at Moresby this afternoon and will be seeking to avenge an earlier unwarranted defeat at Warwick Road.

Sorry, new items submitted for publication. Cougars should have played Darlington tomorrow but the game has been cancelled.

26 27 COLTS - YOUTH - JUNIOR

Sorry, but no information forthcoming from our usual correspon- dents. The Colts play at Warwick Road when they entertain POCKLING- TON in the National Plate. This replaces scheduled league fixture v Horden tomorrow. There is a full junior programme, both at home and on the road, weather permitting. STOP PRESS: Just as we were about to go to press Ben Blain advised that post- ers will shortly go on display advertising this years 7s TAG event. Ideally, we would like to get 16 teams taking part at £50 per team. Add to that a killer pool and darts contest in the evening, with the hope of taking the total to over £1K for club funds.

Like last year, the event will be open to under 16s upwards and

fancy dress will be compulsory for all teams with prizes for the best outfits, won last year by the Pirates or Rawlings Raiders. A
