  • About the Association of Christian Broadcasters and Christian Community Broadcasting
Submission from Association of Christian Broadcasters Inquiry into Community Broadcasting 1. The scope and role of Australian community broadcasting across radio, television, the internet and other broadcasting technologies; About the Association of Christian Broadcasters and Christian Community Broadcasting Whoever controls the media, controls the mind. Jim Morrison The media is too concentrated, too few people own too much. There's really five companies that control 90 percent of what we read, see and hear. It's not healthy. Ted Turner For better or for worse, our company (The News Corporation Ltd.) is a reflection of my thinking, my character, my values. Rupert Murdoch History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamour of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people. Martin Luther King, Jr. Christian Broadcasting is often one of the few voices that present alternative viewpoints to those expressed in the other media. Christianity has a proven track record for having a positive influence on western society (hospitals, education, basis of government and the law) and we believe that Community Christian Broadcasting is an important and dynamic sector. There are a number of sub-sectors of community broadcasting, who each have special needs and cultural sensitivities. These are RPH, Indigenous, and Ethnic. Each of these make up a very small portion, in both numbers Association of Christian Broadcasters submission March Page 1 of stations and audience of the total sector. However, due to the argued special needs of these sectors they now enjoy significant government funding which the Association of Christian Broadcasters supports and would like to see increased.

Information listed in this guide is correct as at 20 November 2014. 2 GOLDEN PUBLICITY TIPS There are over 1000 events and exhibitions taking part in the 2015 Adelaide Fringe and while they all deserve media attention, it is essential that you know how to market your event effectively to journalists and make your show stand out. A vibrant pitch and easy-to-access information is the key to getting your share of the media love. Most time- poor journalists would prefer to receive an email containing a short pitch, press release, photo/s and video clip rather than a phone call – especially in the fi rst instance. Here are some tips from the Adelaide Fringe Publicity Team on how to sell your story to the media: 1) Ensure you upload a Media Kit to FERS (Step 3, File Upload) These appear on our web page that only journalists can see and the kits encourage them to fi nd out more about you and your show.

  • Aap Submission to the Senate Inquiry on Media Diversity
AAP SUBMISSION TO THE SENATE INQUIRY ON MEDIA DIVERSITY AAP thanks the Senate for the opportunity to make a submission on the Inquiry into Media Diversity in Australia. What is a newswire A newswire is essentially a wholesaler of fact-based news content (text, pictures and video). It reports on politics, business, courts, sport and other news and provides this to other media outlets such as newspapers, radio and TV news. Often the newswire provides the only reporting on a subject and hence its decisions as to what to report play a very important role in informing Australians about matters of public interest. It is essential democratic infrastructure. A newswire often partners with other global newswire agencies to bring international stories to a domestic audience and also to take domestic stories out to a global audience. Newswires provided by news agencies have traditionally served as the backbone of the news supply of their respective countries. Due to their business model they contribute strongly to the diversity of media. In general there is a price for a defined number of circulation – be it printed papers, recipients of TV or radio broadcasters or digital recipients. The bigger the circulation, the higher the price thus making the same newswire accessible for small media with less purchasing power as well as for large media conglomerates with strong financial resources.1 This co-operative business model has been practically accepted world-wide since the founding of the Associated Press (AP) in the USA in the mid-19th century. Newswire agencies are “among the oldest media institutions to survive the evolution of media production from the age of the telegraph to the age of 2 platform technologies”.

  • A Future for Community Radio in Australia
A Future for Community Radio in Australia: Funding, licensing and legislative issues Saba El-Ghul Submitted in partial fulfillment of requirements for KK51 Master of Arts (Research) Creative Industries Research and Applications Centre Queensland University of Technology 2004 Keywords Community, radio, funding, licensing, sponsorship, philanthropy, marketing, legislative issues. 1 Abstract The community radio sector is an important cultural resource for the Australian community. It is experiencing rapid growth with an increase in the number of licensed radio stations, however, government funding has not proportionally increased and this is threatening the financial viability of many stations. The key issue addressed in this research is the need to find ways to enhance community radio’s sources of funding without imperilling its status as a not-for-profit sector. This study argues that there is no inherent conflict between entrepreneurial principles and not-for-profit principles, and as long as all revenue is invested back into the station, then there should be no limit on income generation for community radio. Overseas community radio experience supports this argument. 2 Table of Contents Chapter One – Introduction .................................................................................6 The Argument.............................................................................................6 A Short History of Community Radio........................................................14 Funding: strategies and case Studies ......................................................20
