Five new subgenera and nine new species of this genus from Ecuador and Guyana are described. Two new species names are proposed due to the secondary homonymy, and one old species name was resurrected from synonymy as a replacement name. Lectotype for U. cavicola Chop. is designated. New data on the geographical and biotopical distribution of some species are given. The paper is based on the material from the col- lections of the Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg (ZIN), and the Natural History Museum, London (NHM). Gurncy, I have been able to examine an important collection of Giylloidea and Tridactyloidea ^ belonging to the U. S, National Museum. Three ma,in lots of specimens comprise the collection: 1. Material collected in northwestern Bolivia by Dr. William M. Mann in 1921-1922 while a member of the Mulford Biological Ex- ploration of the Amazon Basin. A list of his headquarters stations and a map of his itinerary are shown by Snyder (1926) and a popular account of the expedition is given by MacCreagh (1926). 2. Material taken at Pucallpa on the Rio Ucayali and at other Peruvian locahties by Jos6 M. Schunke in 1948-1949 and obtained for the U. S. National Museiun by Dr. Gurney. 3. Material collected in 1949-1950 at Tingo Maria, Peril, and nearby localities by Dr. Harry A. Allard, a retired botanist of the U. S. Department of Agriculture who was engaged primarily in col- lecting plants. All of the principal collecting sites represented by this material are in the drainage of the Amazon River. Some 500 miles separate the area worked over by Allard and Schunke from that where Mann collected. A few Brazilian and Chilean specimens are also included. Some problems of evolution and taxonomy of this group are discussed. The former tribe Luzarini (= Luzarinae auct.) is synonymized with the tribe Phalangopsini divided into several subtribes (including the subtribe Luzarina). We propose the first phylogenetic hypothesis for the evolu- tion of crickets sensu lato, based on analysis of 205 species, representing 88% of the subfamilies and 71% tribes currently listed in the database Orthoptera Species File (OSF). We reconstructed parsimony, maximum likelihood and Bayesian phylogenies using fragments of 18S, 28SA, 28SD, H3, 12S, 16S, and cytb (~3600 bp). Our results support the monophyly of the cricket clade, and its subdivision into two clades: mole crickets and ant-loving crickets on the one hand, and all the other crickets on the other (i.e. crickets sensu stricto). Crickets sensu stricto form seven monophyletic clades, which support part of the OSF fami- lies, “subfamily groups”, or subfamilies: the mole crickets (OSF Gryllotalpidae), the scaly crickets (OSF Mogoplistidae), and the true crickets (OSF Gryllidae) are recovered as monophyletic.

Abstract—Fifty-three species in six families occur in Micronesia. Kevan (1987) listed forty-three species, 20 of which were given as new but unde- scribed. Kevan (1990) listed eight species as introduced, seven of which were on his previous list, plus Mecopoda elongata (Linnaeus). Seven new species were described in the Conocephalidae, Phisidini, by Jin & Kevan (1992). Eighteen additional new species and a subspecies are described in this paper, seventeen by Vickery & Kevan and one by English & Kevan, nine in the Gryllacrididae: Niphetogryllacris marianae, N. tolensis, Anancistrogera palauensis, Neanias ogasawarensis, Prosopogryllacris palauensis, P. chuukensis, Melaneremus marianae marianae, M. m. rotaensis, M. saiensis, and M. kosraensis; two in the Rhaphidophoridae: Rhaphidophora ponapensis and Stonychophora palauensis; three in the Phaneropteridae: Casigneta palauensis, Isopsera yapanese and I. palauensis; one in the Mecopodidae: Ocica ponapensis English & Kevan; and three in the Conocephalidae: Spinisternum palauensis, Macroxiphus globiceratus and Salomona ponapensis. Nine species are added to the lists of Kevan (1987, 1990), including one described as new. Twenty-six species are known to be endemic in Micronesia. Introduction This paper completes the work on the Orthoptera (sens. str.) and Grylloptera [=Ensifera] of Micronesia, except for the crickets (Grylloidea).
