Football update By Jeff Gendell Richard Kemp resigned his duties as Duke football offensive coordinator Thursday. Kemp, who was in his third season on the Duke staff, will be replaced by somone who is more adapted to a passing game, said Red Wilson, Duke head coach. "This was in the best interest of the football program, and Coach Kemp understood this," Wilson said. "As head coach, I saw little progress moving the football on offense." Wilson also said that he has contacted Kansas State assistant Jim Doonan about replacing Kemp. Doonan, who played quarterback at North Carolina State, is also one of the leading candidates for the head coaching job at N.C. State. Former Wolfpack head coach Bo Rein resigned his duties Friday in order to accept the top job at Louisiana State Universi ty. In other football news, defensive secondary coach Cliff Yoshida was promoted to defensive coordinator replacing Larry Thompson. Thomp son will be re-assigned duties, according to Wilson.
