Blake Camp scored two goals in the fi rst 15 minutes and Pope made it 3-0 with a goal three minutes into the second half. Maryland stormed back in the fi nal 10 minutes with two goals but Spencer Wadsworth put the fi nishing touches on the Blue Devil’s 4-2 victory. Duke faced No. 4 North Carolina in the fi nals and for the second time in the season the two played through two overtimes with a scoreless tie. The championship came down to penalty kicks. The Blue Devils trailed 4-3 and faced a loss but Justin Papadakis made two key saves and Camp and Mike Grella converted shots to win, 5-4.

1982 Championship Team 1982 Regular Season Champions Joe Ulrich became the fi rst of six Duke players to earn National Player of the Year honors when he led the Blue Devils to the school’s fi rst national champion- ship appearance. Duke set a school record with a 24-game unbeaten streak before losing to Indiana in the National Championship game, 2-1 in eight over- times. The Blue Devils ended with a 22-1-2 record and were 4-0-2 in the ACC. Tom Kain had an outstanding freshman season with 13 goals and 20 assists for 46 points while Bob Jenkins tallied 16 goals. Pat Johnston recorded 12 shutouts, allowing just 18 goals and stopping 124 shots.

2006 Championship Team 2006 ACC Regular Season and Tournament Champions Duke fi nished the 2006 regular season with a 13-3-1 record and a 5-2-1 mark in the ACC, good for fi rst place and the top seed in the ACC tournament. The Blue Devils would go on to end the season with an 18-4-1 record, advancing to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament before falling, 3-2 in overtime, to eventual national runner-up UCLA. The 2006 ACC tournament began with Duke defeating No. 9 seed N.C. State, 2-1, on headers from Chris Loftus and Michael Videira. In the semifi nals against tournament host and fourth-seeded Maryland, the Blue Devils again used their heads to win, this time when Joe Germanese fi nished a cross by Spencer Wadsworth in 40th minute.
