DEAFENING SILENCE

THE AFL has yet to declare if it will restrict interstate clubs from training until all of the players returning to WA and South Australia are cleared from a mandatory two-week isolation. One week after shutting down any prospect of players in Perth and Adelaide training in larger groups — despite State Government allowances — the AFL is facing a test of its equalisation mantra. West Coast, Fremantle, Port Adelaide and Adelaide players returning to their clubs from interstate all face two weeks in isolation before they are allowed to join teammates. As of last week the Dockers had 10 players interstate, including seven who repre- sented the club in round one — , Adam Cer- ra, , , , Sam Sturt and Lachie Schultz. The Eagles had five players out of Perth, but that included forward Jamie Cripps in Northampton. WA-based players returning from interstate would need to have the approval of WA police and face a mandatory two- week isolation period. Footballers returning to clubs in Victoria and NSW would not face any isolation, giving those clubs a two-week head start on their AFL rivals.
