The 38th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of MBWRSEC will be held in three places:

 In , the meeting will be held in the UNITARIAN CHURCH HALL at the corner of 49th Avenue and Oak Street on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017. The hall is available at 10:30 a.m., luncheon at 11:45 a.m., followed by the meeting at 12:30 p.m. This will be the business meeting and will include approval of the financial statement and the nomination and election of Directors. In addition, members will be asked to approve a Special Resolution amending the Club’s Constitution as noted under the program for this location. This Special Resolution requires the approval of not less than three- quarters (3/4) of the members present. All members are welcome to attend but anyone wishing to participate from or Powell River should advise Joy Miller of their intention to attend – Tel. 604-515-9884 or email [email protected]

 On Vancouver Island, the meeting will be held at NANOOSE PLACE located at 2925 Northwest Bay Road in Nanoose Bay, (turn off the Island Highway at the PetroCanada station, 1-2 miles along) on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017. The hall will be open at 10:30 a.m., luncheon at 12 noon, followed by the meeting at 12:30 p.m.

 In Powell River, the meeting will be held at the ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION, Branch 164, 6811 Alexander Street on Thursday, May 4th, 2017. Doors will open at 9:45 a.m., the meeting will start at 10:30 a.m., followed by the luncheon at 11:45 a.m.

 In making these arrangements, time is provided for members to socialize and reminisce with fellow retirees.

Annual General Meeting Programs

All meetings will include a President’s report and guest speakers have been engaged as follows:

Vancouver - Colin Holyk, Pharmacist, Kerrisdale Pharmacy, who will speak and answer questions on Pharmacare and its impact on our Extended Health Benefits Plan, the Provincial Drug Formulary, generic and special authority drugs, etc.

Business meeting – As explained above and including the following Special Resolution:

WHEREAS the new B.C. Societies Act came into effect on November 28, 2016;

AND WHEREAS the Directors deem it prudent to designate the MacMillan Bloedel Weyerhaeuser Retired Salaried Employees Club as a “member-funded society”;

RESOLVED AS A SPECIAL RESOLUTION THAT the Constitution be amended by adding the following clause:

“This society is a member-funded society. It is funded primarily by its members to carry on activities for the benefit of its members. On its liquidation or dissolution, this society may distribute its money and other property to its members.”

Due to the Privacy Act, the Club no longer has access to the names of those retiring from any of the MacMillan Bloedel successor companies, e.g. Weyerhaeuser, Catalyst, Pope & Talbot, Cascadia, Island Timberlands, Western Forest Products. As a result, members are urged to actively recruit from these companies new salaried retirees who were former employees of MB or Weyerhaeuser or any of their subsidiary companies. In addition, any ACTIVE or retired person who was previously employed by MB, Weyerhaeuser or any of their subsidiary companies as a salaried employee but who left before retirement and has pension or other benefits accruing from their previous employment with either of those companies, including subsidiaries, is welcome to join the Club as an Associate member.

TO KEEP POSTAGE COSTS TO A MINIMUM IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT, IF POSSIBLE, MEMBERS PROVIDE THE CLUB WITH AN EMAIL ADDRESS. IT IS ALSO TO YOUR ADVANTAGE IN ORDER TO KEEP CURRENT WITH THE PERIODIC UPDATES TO OUR WEBSITE.

We urge you to support your Club by paying your dues and participating in the meetings.

Club annual dues are now payable for the year 2017. Please see the renewal form included in this package. Minutes of the Annual General Meetings will be sent to paid-up members, either by email or Post.
