First Generation

1. Joseph Turnpenny was born in 1764 in Yeadon. He lived in Hightown, Birstall on 12 Nov 1786. On 12 Nov 1786 he was in Razor Grinder. Shown on Williams Baptism. Joseph appeared in the census in 1841 in In the area, Henshaw Lane, Moor Lane & Swine Car Lane, Yeadon.. In 1841 he was in Umbrella Maker.. He died in 1843 at the age of 79 in Otley (2Q1843-23-350)(79). On 22 Oct 1848 Joseph was in Grinder - as shown on sons marriage certificate.. Note, The basis of this tree was from Peter Russel from High Wycombe, who is tracing his Turnpenny ancestry from Ann 7th July 1826. With the exception I changed the head of this tree to Joseph and added further details. (March 2006) On finding the 1841 census for Yeadon this clarified this tree and added extra legs, but I now think that Joseph 1764 is the son of Joseph 1733 on my tree (No1).

I purchased the tweezers in September 2008 thinking that they were part of his tool kit but now think he was actually making these tweezers as another identical set have appeared on ebay on the 17th June which I will bid for. Joseph Turnpenny and Ann Robertshaw were married on 11 Oct 1785 in St. Peter, Birstall Parish Church (Both of Hightown in Birstal) (IGI)(PR). Witness at the marriage John Drake and Mills Holmshore. From the Archbishop of York Marriage Bonds & Allegations. 7th Sept 1839 Birstall Parish Church. Joseph Turnpenny - 21 - Bradford & Ann Robertshaw - 21 - Bradford. Ann Robertshaw was born in 1763 in Yeadon. She appeared in the census in 1841 in In the area, Henshaw Lane, Moor Lane & Swine Car Lane, Yeadon.. She died in 1845 at the age of 82 in Otley (4Q1845-23-328)(82).

On 17 Jun 1845 he was in Umberella Maker ( at daughters marriage). On 24 Aug 1846 he was a Cutler. PR. James lived in Otley. PR on 22 Oct 1848. On 22 Oct 1848 he was a Grinder. PR. In 1871 he was in Cutter. He died in 1872 at the age of 81 in Wharfedale (4Q1872-9a108)(81). On the 1841 census it says age of 45 & on the 1871 census he is a boarder staying with Joshua Dawson. On his marriage to Mary, Joshua was one of the Witnesses. James Turnpenny and Rebecca Flesher were married on 31 May 1814 in All Saints Otley. (IGI) PR. Witness at the marriage Thomas Cawood and Stephen Longfield. Rebecca Flesher, daughter of Miles Flesher and Margaret Childs, was born in 1791. She appeared in the census in 1841 in Grey Lane, Otley. She died in 1847 at the age of 56 in Bradford (3Q1847-23- 120). On the GRO death records shown as Turnpenney.

Turnpenny, Yeadon - I think they belonged to this John. See Media & File. John Turnpenny and Ann Whitaker were married on 6 Oct 1822 in Guiseley (IGI) PR. Witness at the marriage George Gill and Thomas Unthink. Ann Whitaker was born in 1799. She appeared in the census in 1841 in In the area, Henshaw Lane, Moor Lane & Swine Car Lane, Yeadon.. She died in 1843 at the age of 44 in Otley (2Q1843-23-352)(44). Alfred must have died at birth and his mother Ann shortly afterwards, may have been a birth complication.

Sidonia Turnpenny and Jonathan Myers were married on 24 Aug 1846 in St. Peter, Bradford (3Q1846-23-150) PR. Witness at the marriage Henry Walker and Joseph Smith. Jonathan Myers, son of Johnathan Myers, was born in 1822 in Addingham, Yorkshire, England. On 24 Aug 1846 he was a Shoemaker. PR. He lived in Bradford. PR on 24 Aug 1846. On marriage certificate:- Listed as Spinster & Batchelor Aged 19 & 20 respectively. Neither fathers or witnesses could write. Witnesses:- John Pickles & Sarah Gill. Joshua Pickles, son of Edward Pickles, was born in 1819 in Otley. On 17 Jun 1845 he was in Comber (at marriage). He lived in Bradford. PR on 17 Jun 1845. On the parish registers it says David is 22 and Rebecca is 20 ? Cannot find on any census. On 7 Oct 1865 David Parkinson, son of Richard Parkinson, was a Wagoner. PR. He lived in Horton. PR on 7 Oct 1865.

10. Elizabeth Turnpenny (Mary Turnpenny-2, Joseph-1) was born in 1808 in Yeadon. PR. She was baptized on 31 Jul 1808 in All Saints, Harewood, (From Yeadon) PR (Guiseley IGI). Natural daughter of Mary. She appeared in the census in 1841 in Braken Bank, Keighley. In 1841 Elizabeth was in Wool Weaver. She appeared in the census in 1851 in Sugdens House, Ingrow cum Haisworth, Keighley.. She appeared in the census in 1861 in Braken Bank, Keighley. Elizabeth appeared in the census in 1871 in 4, Bracken Bank, Keighley. She appeared in the census in 1881 in Lees Hill, Bingley (Mother in Law). In 1881 she was in Annuitant. Elizabeth died in 1885 at the age of 77 in Keighley (2Q1885-9a129)(77). Looks as though she was illegitimate.

Elizabeth Turnpenny and John Clapham were married on 31 Jul 1832 in Bingley (Both from New Road) (IGI) PR. Witness at the marriage Hezekiah Hanson and Thomas Smith.
