This year, students focused on kicking Juul, the e-cigarette that has become popular among youth across the country. Over 800 students, teachers and staff at Edison High School participated in a schoolwide pledge that raised awareness of the problem of tobacco use within their school and encouraged youth to reject the tobacco industry’s deceptive marketing and stay tobacco-free. “Although we have made great strides in our fight against the tobacco epidemic, e-cigarette use among high schoolers increased 78 percent in 2018. More work needs to be done within our local communities and schools as we face this new epidemic of e-cigarettes and flavored tobacco product use,” said Vanessa Yvon, Queens Student Engagement Manager for NYC Smoke-Free.
