Esteemed Panelists Swami Narsimhananda, A monk of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Swami Narasimhananda is the former editor of Prabuddha Bharata, an English monthly journal devoted to the social sciences and the humanities, started in 1896 by Swami Vivekananda. He is a visiting faculty at the Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He regularly speaks at institutes of national importance like the IITs and gives classes on management in various colleges. Besides working on philosophy, social sciences, religion, Indian Studies, Ramakrishna-Vivekananda, and Vedanta. He has edited a volume of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings titled Vivekananda Reader. He writes in English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, and Malayalam and is currently working on English translations of Svarajya Siddhi and Maitrayani Upanishad and collaborates with various academics in formulating an Indian framework of Religious Studies, Comparative Religions, and Sociology of Religion. Shri Tarun Goswami is a veteran journalist. He is presently Resident Editor at Millennium Post, Kolkata. He was with The Statesman, Kolkata. He was educated at St. Lawrence High School, where the Jesuit Fathers introduced him to Swami Vivekananda some time at the end of the 1970s. He did his BA in Philosophy from Presidency College, Kolkata and his MA from the University of Calcutta. He has undertaken research on Swami Vivekananda for several decades now and writes regularly on Vivekananda for newspapers and different magazines; He has spoken on several platforms about the ideals taught by Swami Vivekananda. He is also a well-known practitioner of a rare art form—singing-whistling, which he learnt under the guidance of Shri Salil Chowdhury. Goswami has many public performances and albums to his credit.

Walker, Professor of Comparative Literature Rutgers University (USA) In a lecture given in San Francisco on March 18, 1900, Vivekananda defined his unique relationship with Buddha in the following words: All my life I have been very fond of Buddha . I have more veneration for that character than for any other—that boldness, that fearlessness, and that tremendous love!i He went on to call Buddha “the greatest man who ever lived”—and this is only one of the many occasions on which Vivekananda waxed enthusiastic about Buddha, publicly and privately. Various Facets of Vivekananda Swami Chetanananda Sri Ramakrishna brought Narendranath Daa (Swami Vivekananda) to the world to preach his message. He knew Narendra’s true natureand made remarks about him, such as: “Narendra was one of the seven great sages who were in a perpetual state of meditation in the divine kingdom.” “He is that ancient sage Narayana, in human form.” “Narendra is a great soul, perfect in meditation.” One day Keshab Chandra Sen, ViJay Krishna Goswami, and other celebrated leaders of the Brahmo Samaj were seated with the Master. Young Narendra was also present. In an exalted mood, the Master looked on Keshab and Vijay with an affectionate gaze. After Keshab and Vijay hadleft,the Master said: “Keshab possesses one power, which has made himworld famous, but Narendra is endowed with eighteen such powers. I have seen the divine light in Keshab and Vijay burning like a candle flame, but in Narendra it shines with the radiance of the sun, dispelling the last vestiges of ignorance and delusion.” Narendra considered himself unworthy of such praise and vehemently protested to the Master: “Sir, why do you say such things? People will think you’re mad if you talk like that! Keshab is famous all over the world. Vijay is a saint. I am an insignificant schoolboy. How can you speak of us in the same breath? Please, I beg of you, never say such things again!” Pleased, the Master responded: “But what can I do about it, my child? You don’t suppose I’d say such things of my own accord? It was Mother who showed methetruth about you, and so I had to say it.
