Mumbai and Delhi people cold shoulder each other just as well as Californians and New Yorkers do! But I got to admit, a few days in the Capital for a Mumbai-ite like me wasn’t all that bad. The difference begins as you step off the plane. In Mumbai the hot air hits you, in Delhi it’s like the clouds just ate a Minto fresh and then paused to bellow ‘Hi!!!” The ‘mind-your-own-business’-ness of Mumbai people is quickly replaced by the Auntyji Analytical stares of Delhi. The cool collected ϐǤ But the roads of Delhi are heaven! Ten minutes into a drive and you are greeted by landscaping, proper signals, well organized pedestrian routes and Ǩϐǥ underrated charisma. Heritage has found a home in the capital. Large areas are cordoned off as archeological heritage sites. The amount of land dedicated to the stories of the past would make a Mumbai builder slash his wrists in greed and confusion! ϐ Ǥ ǡ everything. I was sluggish right upto my plane seat! ǯ Ǥ ϐ Ǥ ǡϐ Ǥ isn’t completely emptied on the way down, the strategies might see the light of day! Most residents are keen on playing and winning political games and import export orders. Most women I notice, balance precariously on their Jimmy Choos while handling ten bags from designer mall sprees. In Mumbai we traded them in for chappals, backpacks and sweaty rides to earn our own paychecks a long time ago! I ‘capitalized’ on my time in Delhi and visited Mrs. Bagli from the Delhi Anjuman and Mr. Keki Daruwalla of the National Commission for Minorities. True representatives of the spirit of our Capital, they were both distinguished and hospitable. Delhi is the epicenter of national strategy and Mr. Daruwalla takes on the bigger picture for the ϐ ǤǤ Ǥ Anyway, I’m back at my desk and looking forward to this weekend where I get to hear from you all. Till then take a chance and book a ticket out to anywhere away from home. Whatever you like or don’t like about it, a memory is always a memory and a journey is always a way forward.
