1. SAP HANA Initial Backup

“NEC High-Performance Appliance for SAP HANA” has an initial backup on a local volume. In order to prevent this file from getting lost, this backup file should be copied to an external storage, such as a USB memory, optical media or network drive.

With this initial backup the status the delievery of your NEC High-Performance Appliance for SAP HANA can be recovered.

This document describes how to save the initial backup data to an USB memory as an example.

The external backup media should be sized minimum 6GB at least.

2. Backup Data Copy Procedure

This chapter describes how to copy the initial backup files to an USB storage. All commands are valid for every model, if not otherwise mentioned.

① While the OS is running insert the USB memory to the HANA server USB port and for automatic detection.

② Open a terminal console and confirm whether the USB memory has been detected “dmesg”

In this case the USB memory has been detected as “sdf”.

③ Confirm the status of this device by typing: mount

In this case “/dev/sdf1” has been mounted to” /media/disk”.

If your device has not been mounted automatically, then please proceed with the following commands, otherwise this is not needed: /media/disk mount /dev/sdf1 /media/disk

④ Create a temporary mount point for the backup partition by this command: mkdir /tmp/backup

⑤ Mount the backup partition to the temporary mount point, which was created in (4) by this command: For up to 1TB only: mount /dev/sda5 /tmp/backup

For 2TB only: mount /dev/sda3 /tmp/backup

⑥ Copy the tar files in “/tmp/backup” to ”/media/disk”: /tmp/backup/hana-root.tar.gz /media/disk/ cp /tmp/backup/hana-log.tar.gz /media/disk/ cp /tmp/backup/hana-boot.tar.gz /media/disk/ cp /tmp/backup/hana-bootefi.tar.gz /media/disk/

For up to 1 TB additionaly: cp /tmp/backup/hana-disk.tar.gz /media/disk/

For 2TB additionaly: cp /tmp/backup/hana-shared.tar.gz /media/disk/ cp /tmp/backup/hana-data.tar.gz /media/disk/

⑦ Check that all files have been successfully copied: –l /media/disk

⑧ Unmount both USB memory and backup devices umount /media/disk umount /tmp/backup

⑨ Delete mount point(s) /tmp/backup The next command only needs to be executed if you manually mounted in step 3. rmdir /media/disk
