Welcome from the host, Pavel Kabat, on behalf of the host, IIASA. 1.2 Meeting Objectives To review and advise on the development of: 1) the transition to Future Earth, 2) core projects- synthesis and their transition to Future Earth 3) progress and finalizing the IGBP synthesis, and 4) IGBP Landmark Synthesis event at AGU, 2015 The SC is asked to approve the agenda. 1.3 Review of Action Items from the 27th Officers meeting and the 29th SC meeting The SC is asked to review the status of the Action items from the SC 2014 and Officers meeting 2014. Fabiano Scarpa, INPE, will provide an IGBP regional office update. The SC is invited to discuss the activities of the IGBP secretariat and provide guidance on further developments 2.0 TRANSITION TO FUTURE EARTH James Syvitski to provide an introduction to the discussion. Paul Shrivastava, Future Earth Executive Director, will provide an update on Future Earth, including information on: • Science Future Earth’s scientific and other priorities; to what extent should core projects align their science with these? How do projects address co-design and co-production? How will emerging priorities impact on transition statements and the core project science plans already in development? • Institutional aspects of governance SSC chairs and membership approval and governance of core projects (e.g. structural diagram, interaction with SC & EC, core knowledge networks, liaison functions, communication, reporting, IPO guidelines, MOU, Regional nodes and national committees, strategic partnerships) • Funding (e.g. Future Earth secretariat, SSC meetings, workshops, synthesis, capacity building, other initiatives, assistance to IPO in identifying funding etc..) • Observations and modeling This will be followed by a discussion on core project opportunities and concerns, structural and scientific, as IGBP moves towards closure. The SC is asked to raise any concerns relating to the transition process and where appropriate make recommendations to assist with the smooth transition. The SC is asked to consider core project plans for its transition to Future Earth and its future vision and provide feedback and guidance.
