We are now entering the 113th year of women’s club cricket and it continues to grow. In good news Box Hill, Brighton District, Coburg, Geelong, and Kingston Heath have all added a second team to the WCCC this year. I’d also like to extend a welcome to our new teams in Ballarat, Caroline Springs, East Ringwood/ Chirnside Park, Greenvale and Wyclif. Our focus is on investing in and developing players, competitions and administrators to ensure the WCCC remains an important component of competitive women’s cricket in our state. It is also an important pathway as part of our future female talent pipeline. We want to grow our state high performance program and ensure our Victorian squad and the Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades squads have a strong pool of emerging talent to develop and potentially offer contracts to in the future. I’m proud to say that total female participation in cricket increased 31% last season in Victoria which is an excellent result. I congratulate all of you on both your participation and your promotion of our game in your local communities to bring more women and girls to cricket. Cricket Australia’s Growing Cricket for Girls fund continues to receive significant numbers of applications and it is pleasing to see Victoria has again led the way in the number of applications to develop cricket for women and girls. It’s an exciting time for women’s cricket in Victoria and this national investment again highlights the importance of growing our game at every level. As important members of the Victorian cricket community, I’d also like to extend a warm welcome when you’re next in St Kilda to come and visit our new headquarters. Our team would be more than happy to show you around the new facilities which will have a significant impact on the growth of Victorian cricket in the years ahead. Last, but certainly not least, can I say a huge thank you to all our volunteers on the Women’s Community Cricket panel, led by chairperson Gail Schmidt for their continued dedication and passion for the competition. Good luck to everyone this season. Gladys Elphick Park, Narnungga (Park 25) – Karen Rolton Oval Lighting 1. BACKGROUND Karen Rolton Oval located within Gladys Elphick Park Narnungga was originally developed with the objective of delivering a multi-use sports hub in the heart of the city. An upgrade of facilities, which included the construction of a new Oval Pavilion, car park and redevelopment of the main oval was completed by the SACA in January 2018. This investment by SACA was undertaken on entering a new lease (21 years + 21-year extension option) over the new pavilion and license for use of the four ovals located within Park 25. The redevelopment forms part of a Sports and Infrastructure Master Plan for Adelaide’s west and south parklands has delivered a major recreational, sporting and natural open space, containing a mix of formal and informal sporting facilities and associated catering. To optimise the ongoing sustainable use of the main oval, SACA is proposing the installation of oval lighting to provide some training and matches in the evening for cricket and football. The lower lux level of the lighting would exclude usage for all domestic and international cricket in the evening hours, such as the T20 World Cup, Women’s Big Bash League, Women’s National Cricket League and Sheffield Shield. Adelaide Oval will continue to be the primary site for all domestic and international cricket played under lights. However, the proposed lighting on Karen Rolton Oval will meet Cricket Australia Community Cricket Facility Guidelines for the majority of scheduled usage. Existing

On behalf of Cricket Australia, I welcome all players, parents and families to this year's Under 19 Male National Championships. Cricket Australia’s Underage National Championships are an integral part of the Australian Cricket Pathway, and continue to provide important development opportunities for our emerging stars. These championships have been the largest contributor of talent to the men’s national team since their establishment, and have helped the likes of Australian captains Tim Paine and Aaron Finch rise from young guns to international leaders. We have already seen a group of players make the step up to JLT Sheffield Shield cricket this summer, after playing at last season’s Under 19 Male National Championships. In the first half of the season, Jack Edwards and Jason Sangha have made their debuts for New South Wales, as has Lloyd Pope for South Australia and Nathan McSweeney for Queensland. It just goes to show that the next level is not that far away. To all of our players, this is an exciting phase of your sporting journey and I encourage you to embrace this experience. Enjoy the challenge of testing yourselves against the best players from right across Australia, and the opportunity to play with your teammates and create memories that will last throughout your cricketing careers and beyond.
