Welcome to the March edition of Slap. I was hoping to say ‘Spring is in the air’ but I’ve just seen the weather forecast and it’s far from Spring-like. It really feels like it’s been a long winter of discontent with news of more venue closures almost weekly. The latest to go at the end of February was the Pig and Drum in Worcester which has been prominent on the local music seen for a few years now. Thanks to the efforts of landlady Rachel Cale bands from out of town loved playing there. We don’t yet know the long term fate of the Boar’s Mar 2017 Head in Kidderminster since Sid & Sandra announced they’re moving on in the summer, But I don’t think it’ll be the last to go. With business rates rises due very soon and so many people feeling the pinch, these places are really suffering. There are SLAP MAGAZINE rumours of other venues around the counties who may also be Unit 3a, Lowesmoor Wharf, shutting their doors soon. And It’s not just the music scene that Worcester WR1 2RS suffers either, many of these spaces are now multi functional art Telephone: 01905 26660 spaces as well as platforms for comedy, spoken word and poetry.

  • Introduction to R&C Database Compilation & Index
Introduction to R&C Database Compilation & Index I have a long history and fondness for Rod & Custom magazine. This is the first magazine I purchased at age 10, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I often refer back to my collection, but find it hard to quickly lay my hands on a given article. This is for fellow HAMB members who share a love for this little magazine. This Index covers Rod & Custom Magazine from May 1953 through May 1974. I stopped at 1974 since R&C went out of print then. R&C was restarted in December 1988 and lasted until October 2014. This index is created for general reference, technical reference, research, tracing automobile histories, and genealogy. I have attempted to use a consistent categorization or article grouping scheme across all 20+ years, even though editors or previous compilations may not have used this convention. This index contains the following specific information: Title of each article along with a descriptive supplement such as club affiliation, noted customizers, past owners, professions, etc. The author’s and/or photographer’s name where space allowed. Featured vehicle year, make, model, & engine and/or engine displacement where available or where space allowed. Vehicle owner name, city and state. Where the country is other than the United States, I listed the country Product manufacturer name, city and state. Address may be included if space allowed. The month and page number of each feature article or photograph. The index is sorted by year, and a title at the top of each page indicates which year.

Long before the advent of synthesizers, this extraordinary keyboard revolutionised rock and pop music. For the first time, it brought a potentially unlimited range of sounds to a musician’s fingertips. As the world’s first sampler, its pre-recorded tapes included everything from a symphony orchestra and church choir to samba combo and rock’n’roll drum rhythms. The result is an insight into the social history of British pop and rock music—in particular progressive rock—and explains some of the reasons why British music came to rock the whole world. Top musicians, songwriters and producers chart their careers with the Mellotron, the first sampler keyboard whose eccentric mechanism led to it being affectionately called “The Beast”: Tony Banks (Genesis), Mike Pinder (Moody Blues), Ian McDonald (King Crimson, Foreigner),

NEW RELEASE for the week of January 8, 2021 PRIORITIES & HIGHLIGHTS >> Pre-Order Now! CLEAN "Mister Pop (re-issue 2009)” (MERGE) MRG325 LP January 29 street date. David Kilgour on "Mister Pop": ""Mister Pop" began in Brooklyn, NY, at Gary Olson's Marlborough Farms studio and was completed in the basement hall of First Church Dunedin. There is more synthesizer on this album than the others, mainly an old Juno synth. I do remember having a bath in Brooklyn while Robert was downstairs singing and writing. I thought he was singing "he's a factory man", so I dried off and went down and wrote "Factory Man" while thinking heavily of The Kinks". Robert Scott on "Mister Pop": "I remember thinking at the start of the NY sessions with Gary Olson, "is this the start of a new album?". We were coming up with quite a bit of new stuff, and of course, Gary is great to work with. We carried on at Burlington St in Dunedin with (engineer and Heavy 8) Tex Houston at the controls, good fun from what I remember, lots of mucking around with keyboards and synths. We were going for that Krautrock groove and we sure got it on "Tensile", one of my faves along with the pure pop of "Dreamlife". CLEAN "Unknown Country (re-issue 1996)” (MERGE) MRG739 LP January 29 street date. David Kilgour on "Unknown Country": "The Clean always wanna try something different, but on this LP, we were obsessed with the idea. I remember we generally left vocal ideas to last, after the tracks were recorded, so we never really knew where we were headed.
