RFU Area 4 Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire RFU Quarterly Report - Quarter 1 September 2015 RDO(s) – Andrew Highton, Gareth Short, Matt Jefferson Completed: Boys Rugby - 9 x All Schools Programs launched linking schools to Ashfield RFC, Melbourne RFC and Boston RFC - Phase 3 All School programs into 2nd year at Mellish RFC, Lincoln RFC and Chesterfield Panthers RFC - Phase 2 All Schools programs into 3rd year at Grimsby RFC and Ilkeston RFC - Chapeter 2 All Schools program underway at Nottingham Moderns RFC - Teacher Rugby Union in Secondary schools course delivered at Oak Wood Acdemy with 14 new teachers qualified - Broadening Reach Schools Program starting at Redhill Academy, Selston Academy, Southwolds Academy, Tupton Community School, Tibshelf Academy, Healing Academy, Humberston Academy - Broadening Reach Schools Program continuing at Netherthorpe Academy, Retford Oaks Academy, Brookfield Community School, East Leake Academy, Cleethorpes Academy, Frederick Gough School - School/Club Recruitment Festivals running from September throughout the year - Schools County Cup Competitions starting in; Nottinghamshire (22 schools taking part), Lincolnshire (20 schools taking part) - RWC Trophy Tour – Touch Rugby and Women’s 7’s at Lincoln RFC, 14 clubs taking part - RWC Trophy Tour – Tag rugby festival at Chatsworth House, 9 clubs taking part - RWC Trophy Tour – Beach Touch Rugby in Nottingham City Centre, 6 clubs taking part 16 – 24 year olds - College growth activity starting again in a new academic year with every college across NLD - College Recruitment festivals at Central College, Buxton, Chesterfield, Grimsby Institute, Franklin and John Leggett - Now up to 9 holding on clubs in each county, each with focus around transitioning U16/U17 players through to senior rugby. - Nottinghamshire – East Retford, Paviors RFC, West Bridgford RFC, Southwell RFC, Ashfield RFC, Mellish RFC, Nott Moderns RFC, Nott Corsairs RFC, Mansfield RFC - Derbyshire – Long Eaton RFC, Ilkeston RFC, Melbourne RFC, Chesterfield Panthers RFC, Matlock RFC, Belper RFC, Glossop RFC, Bakewell Manarians RFC, Ashbourne RFC - Lincolnshire – North Hykeham RUFC, Horncastle RFC, Barton and District RUFC, Bourne RUFC, Spalding RFC, Scunthorpe RFC, Lincoln RFC, Sleaford RFC - Development XV competition starting slowly with 8 teams taking part. Women & Girls - Ladies growth at Amber Valley RFC, Belper RFC and Buxton RFC, Ashfield RFC, Mellish RFC, West Bridgford RFC, Lincoln RFC and Sleaford RFC - Retention of players at these Clubs remains a challenge. - Chesterfield Panthers RFC have re entered the leagues this season and Lincoln RFC have entered the leagues as a newly established team - Girls growth at Chesterfield Panthers RFC, Long Eaton RFC, Melbourne RFC, Mansfield RFC, Ashfield RFC Mellish RFC, Lincoln RFC, Sleaford RFC and Boston RFC - Newark Girls struggling for numbers, working with Paviors RFC and Long Eaton RFC to ensure regular fixtures. Adult Rugby - Long Eaton RFC and Melbourne RFC have begun the process of becoming O2 Touch Centres and Splading RFC has just become a O2 Touch Centre. - Preseason CRC retention support across clubs in NLD with particular focus on ‘holding on’ age groups. - RWC Trophy Tour – Lincoln Touch Rugby Tournament 8 teams from across NLD took part in the day. - Priority to support Clubs who may struggle to retain a new or recent team in their league or competition. Volunteers - NLD YRA’s from Chesterfield Panthers RFC attended the national YRA event at Twickenham prior to the England v Ireland RWC warm up match. All YRA groups were invited to send in their story for the chance to attend. - The Pack to Family process has begun, trying to recuit volunteers that have been part of The Pack into their local community clubs. - Large number of YRA’s supported the Chatsworth House and Lincoln RFC RWC Trophy Tour event which helped to make it a huge success. Coaches - Focused Coach mentoring from CRC’s at U16/U17 age groups to aid transition to senior rugby - CCC Workshops delivered - Summer program of CPD delivered (Rugby Ready, Scrum Factory) - Club Cluster program of CPDs planned in each County - Lincolnshire Level 2 Coach Support Workshop delivered to 30 coaches from 7 clubs Club - Clubs working towards accreditation – Bingham RFC, Keyworth RFC, Mellish RFC, Worksop RFC, Dronfield RFC, Sleaford RFC, North Hykeham RUFC - Natwest Rugby Force Get Behind England Packs distributed to NWRF Clubs - All Clubs in NLD have been offered the chance for a Getting Ready For Rugby’s Biggest Year workshop with the CRC’s (33 clubs delivered to in NLD) Discipline & Safeguarding - Safeguarding Conference took place at Southwell RFC, well attended by clubs from across NLD Planned Activity: School Recruitment Festivals scheduled including All Schools Recruitment Events for both boys and girls from U12 upwards. CB Orientation Evening for CB Committee members on Monday 28th September at Mansfield. Derbyshire Touch Rugby Tours Derbyshire Development XV Competition Nottinghamshire Make Contact Festivals – Turbo 10’s Fanzone support across area 4 – Leicester City being the closest to NLD October Half term retention camps Coach Development – both formal and informal in preparation for Award courses later in the year. Young Officials Academy working with Paul Carroll and the Referees Society. Targetted work delivery ongoing Rugby World Cup themed Primary MegaFest throughout October being run by SGOs and PDMs. CRCs providing Leader and Teacher education to support. Coaching, Refereeing & Medical – Darren Gourley Completed: Started role on August 1st 2015 – Handover from Rachel Brown and John Widdowson Met with RDOs to discuss and confirm training requirements to support targeted work Delivered All Schools training and CPD to new and existing all schools coaches Confirmed venues and workforce for delivery of agreed award courses calendar for 2015-16 Planned Activity: Arrange meeting with NLD Head of Game Development to look at PFR progress and training requirements Arrange meeting with Referee society training officer to look at referee training requirements and working relationships Deliver and develop award course programme for coaching and refereeing Support delivery of non award course programme Plan Educator and Developer training day for January Planning and delivery of a Community of Practice workshop for those working with 14-24 year olds during November. One event per RDO area Women & Girls – Simon Boyd Completed: Attended W&G forum to discuss club clusters and entry into the girls cup competition. Clubs involved in the cup competition have been grouped and given fixture list. Clubs involved are; Ashfield, Chesterfield, Paviors, Long Eaton, Mansfield, Melbourne, Newark, Lincoln, Sleaford & Boston. Club visits to Melbourne, Derby, Amber Valley, Long Eaton & Lincoln Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire RFU development team meetings to discuss focus clubs and women’s Pitch up and Play offer to clubs. NLD clubs festival at Long Eaton. Planned Activity: W&G Forum at Mansfield RFC Club visits to Mellish, Ashfield & West Bridgford. CB Festival Girls Cup Fixtures NLD/RFU development team meeting Senior women’s Pitch up and Play event at Ashfield RFC. Higher Education – Richard Marelli Completed: Lincoln University - A strong link remains in place with the Men’s and Women’s clubs at both the University and Lincoln RFC, both committees have been to meet the club and agreed the key actions for next season, Men’s club to amalgamate the J1M team with the club Colts team to form a 3rd XV (Squad) to play local weekend games (Club to administer and coach) Aim – to provide a link to senior rugby via weekend games within a young squad. Women’s club/Uni club link is still strong with the University providing a high number of players to the club team on a Sunday and the Club providing transport and coaches to the Uni for a Wednesday. (There is an active LARF in place already without doing anything!) Derby University - Local Area Rugby Forum (LARF) has been formed with the Chairman from Derby RFC, members are from Belper RFC and both the Men’s club at the University along with the New Women’s Club, they will be holding their second meeting in October. The University will have a new Women’s club from September with a team entering BUCS, whilst the men will enter a new second team into BUCS for the first time in 5 years. Buxton Campus after much debate and negotiations are to remain linked to Buxton RFC this season, rising costs have been a problem, but seem to of been sorted for now. Nottingham main campus – The rugby activators position has been part funded by NLDRFU & the University with an agreement in place for three years. IMS will be the main focus and the University is looking to increase the number of players within each squad (from 10 aside to 15 aside) and also increase the number of teams in the League. A student Referee soc is to be formed with students put on courses and then selected to referee the IMS programme. A number of events are planned during the RWC period, on campus and within local clubs, engaging the new fresher’s and re engaging the 2nd years that will of moved out of halls and into the local community beaning the focus. Nottingham SB – Sutton Bonington Campus will again this year run its own club as well as send students to the main campus to take part in BUCS rugby. Men’s club will participate in the local leagues at the weekend; Loughborough Town RFC is the local club for the women who do not play BUCS. Nottingham medics – Students will continue to operate three teams weekly, NAMS XV, 2nd team within the local Pennant league and the third team within the IMS programme. Nottingham GEMS – Will continue with one team, operating from within the University facilities. NTU – Have engaged a part time Rugby Pathway Officer, working with squad 2 and the IMS programme, this position is funded by the University and will work with both the bottom end of the men’s and Women’s BUCS clubs and IMS.
