Annual Report 2014-2015 1. MISSION STATEMENT National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) started its academic and administrative operations during IX Plan w.e.f. 01.04.1996. NCPUL was declared a national Nodal Agency for promotion of Urdu in the country and recognized as an important autonomous organization of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India devoted to promotion of Urdu language and mainstreaming of Urdu education. NCPUL has been given the role of networking of Urdu organizations throughout the country so as the policies of the Government could be implemented in all Urdu speaking areas of the country. For past few years NCPUL has emerged as an effective coordination mechanism for promotion of Urdu language and Urdu medium education in India. During the course of discharging its responsibilities, NCPUL has been assigned the additional responsibility of promotion of Arabic & Persian languages which have played an important role in the development of composite culture of India. The broad goals of the Council are as under:- 1) To promote, develop and propagate Urdu language. 2) To take action for making available in Urdu language, the knowledge of scientific and technological development as well as knowledge of ideas evolved in the modern context. 3) To advise the Government of India on issues connected with Urdu language and having bearing on education as may be referred to it. 4) To undertake any other activity for the promotion of Urdu language as may be deemed fit by the Council. 2. COMPOSITION: NCPUL has been registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act 1860. The Government of India re-constituted the Council on 13th June, 2011 for a period of three years or until further orders whichever is earlier. On completion of its 3 Years time, MHRD reconstituated Council 24th November, 2014 for a period of three years or until further orders. The composition is as follows : 2.1 The Council i. BUDGET 2014-2015: During the financial year 2014-2015, NCPUL received a grant of Rs. 5416.57/- lakhs which includes Rs. 500.00/- lakhs of NE Region from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, and generated an internal income of Rs. 425.08/- lakhs which has been utilized for various approved Urdu promotion programmes in furtherance of objectives enshrined in the Memorandum of Association. The audit of accounts of the Council for the year 2013-2014 has been conducted by the Director General of Audit, Central Expenditure, New Delhi. The audited accounts together with the audit certificate for the year 2013-2014, received in the Council have been submitted to the Ministry for placing in both Houses of the Parliment. 4. MEETINGS : To gear up the academic and administrative operations and bring these in line with the objectives as mentioned in the Memorandum of Association, various statutory bodies of NCPUL had their sessions and laid down the working agenda of the Council. During the period from 01.04.2014 to 31.03.2015, NCPUL held no meeting of General Body of the Council, one meeting of Executive Board on 26.03.2014 and two meetings of Finance Committee on 26.03.2014 and 12.06.2014 respectively. 5 5. ANNUAL ACTIVITIES 5.1 TECHNICAL EDUCATION To link Urdu language to the knowledge of scientific and technological development and the knowledge of ideas evolved in the modern context, NCPUL runs certain technical courses like Application, Business Accounting & Multilingual-DTP (CABA-MDTP) Course and Calligraphy and Graphic Design course through approved agencies. NCPUL launched one year course „Diploma in Computer Applications, Business Accounting and Multilingual DTP‟ across the country. Al-Ameen Institute of Information Technology, Delhi 6 Transfer of information technology to language and making Urdu speaking boys' and girls' part of employable technological work force of India, the Council establishes Computer Applications, Business Accounting and Multilingual DTP Centres (CABA MDTP) across the country. Till date 142576 students including 57193 girls have been awarded Diploma under this Scheme. During the year 2014-15, 23594 students including 9438 girl students have been admitted in July and January sessions to pursue this course. As per information received from all Centres, approximately 13882 students including 5429 girls have got employment locally in private sector and educational institutions and other self employed and running computer based centres/institutions.     Classic Poetry Series Ishrat Afreen - poems - Publication Date: 2012 Publisher: Poemhunter.com - The World's Poetry Archive Ishrat Afreen(25 December 1956) Ishrat Afreen (Urdu: ???? ?????; Hindi: ???? ?????; alternative spelling: Ishrat Aafreen; born December 25, 1956) is an Urdu poet and women's rights activist named one of the five most influential and trend-setting female voices in Urdu Literature. Her works have been translated in many languages including English, Japanese, Sanskrit and Hindi. The renowned ghazal singers Jagjit Singh & Chitra Singh also performed her poetry in their anthology, Beyond Time (1987). Famed actor Zia Mohyeddin also recites her nazms in his 17th and 20th volumes as well as his ongoing concerts. <b> Early Life and Career </b> Ishrat Jehan was born into an educated family in Karachi, Pakistan as the oldest of five children. She later took the pen name Ishrat Afreen. She was first published at the age of 14 in the Daily Jang on April 31, 1971. She continued writing and was published in a multitude of literary magazines across the subcontinent of India and Pakistan. She eventually became assistant editor for the monthly magazine Awaaz, edited by the poet Fahmida Riaz. Parallel to her writing career she participated in several radio shows on Radio Pakistan from 1970-1984 that aired nationally and globally. She later worked under Mirza Jamil on the now universal Noori Nastaliq Urdu script for InPage. She married Syed Perwaiz Jafri, an Indian lawyer, in 1985 and migrated to India. Five years thereafter, the couple and their two children migrated to America. They now reside in Houston, Texas with their three children.

    Ajeeb Aadmi—An Introduction I , Sa‘adat Hasan Manto, Krishan Chandar, Rajinder Singh Bedi, Kaifi Azmi, Jan Nisar Akhtar, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Ali Sardar Jafri, Majaz, Meeraji, and Khawaja Ahmed Abbas. These are some of the names that come to mind when we think of the Progressive Writers’ Movement and modern Urdu literature. But how many people know that every one of these writers was also involved with the Bombay film indus- try and was closely associated with film directors, actors, singers and pro- ducers? Ismat Chughtai’s husband Shahid Latif was a director and he and Ismat Chughtai worked together in his lifetime. After Shahid’s death Ismat Chughtai continued the work alone. In all, she wrote scripts for twelve films, the most notable among them ◊iddµ, Buzdil, Sån® kµ ≤µ∞y≥, and Garm Hav≥. She also acted in Shyam Benegal’s Jun∑n. Khawaja Ahmed Abbas made a name for himself as director and producer for his own films and also by writing scripts for some of Raj Kapoor’s best- known films. Manto, Krishan Chandar and Bedi also wrote scripts for the Bombay films, while all of the above-mentioned poets provided lyrics for some of the most alluring and enduring film songs ever to come out of India. In remembering Kaifi Azmi, Ranjit Hoskote says that the felicities of Urdu poetry and prose entered the consciousness of a vast, national audience through the medium of the popular Hindi cinema; for which masters of Urdu prose, such as Sadat [sic] Hasan Manto, wrote scripts, while many of the Progressives, Azmi included, provided lyrics.

On 28 January 2020 I heard an application in private in which I was asked to make a declaration in preliminary approval of a deferred prosecution agreement (a DPA) reached between the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and Airbus SE (Airbus). At that hearing, I made a declaration that it was likely to be in the interests of justice for such agreement to be made and that its proposed terms were fair, reasonable and proportionate. Today, the 31 January 2020, I made a final declaration and Order to that effect at a hearing held in public. One of the consequences of this Order is that Airbus must pay a total financial sanction of approaching one billion euros (€990,963,712 including costs) to the Consolidated Fund via the SFO within 30 days of today’s date, made up of the disgorgement of profit of €585,939,740 and a penalty of €398,034,571.

July 2021 Programs for Children: Pakistani Televisions’ Content in 2020 Nabila Tabassum1 Abstract Television can play a significant role in nation building and children are generally viewed to be playing a vital role in building the image of a nation. Due to its significance, recent years have seen a worldwide rise in the media content that focuses children as the target audience. Several studies had investigated Pakistani televisions’ content with reference to adults, women and youth audiences. Studies related to children had mostly focused on the impact of television content on children or children's attitudes towards television content. However, the impact of educating and entertaining television on Pakistani children has received limited attention. Therefore, this paper initiated to examine the role of Pakistani television channels to educate or entertain Pakistani children, during January-December 2020. The foremost objective of this paper is to examine the proportion of children's programs in the top four Pakistani entertainment television channels. For this reason, the transmissions of top five Pakistani general entertainment television channels were taken into account included; Hum TV HD, ARY Digital, Geo Entertainment, and ARY Zindagi. The study found only a few programs for children that were fulfilling the purposes of entertaining and educating. Hence, Pakistani television channels are not fulfilling their responsibility in nation-building, as being a social agent of change, the media is responsible to play a key role in building their character and improving the ethical standards of Pakistani children.
