Senior Recognition 2020

Kamiak High School

We recognize our seniors' achievements, scholarships and awards they have earned. This is an incredible group of students with a wide range of talents and skills, as you will see from the honors they have earned.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank and honor the parents, families and friends. Most likely, your students' accomplishments involved your support and encouragement. We appreciate the commitment you have shown to their education.

The awards and scholarships that will be announced are by no means the only ones earned by our seniors. Many universities, foundations, and private benefactors are still in the process of selecting recipients. So you will notice that some awards were unable to be included. We will continue to update as information is acquired.

Pilchuck. Bud attended WWU studying chemistry and education, while playing on the tennis team. Bud was a life-long educator, having completed over 41 years of teaching. He touched the lives of thousands of students while teaching for Vashon Island, Granite Falls, Mariner and, most recently, Kamiak High School where he taught with his wife, Emily. His passion was teaching chemistry and the sciences. In his career, he taught other subjects, including math and driver's ed. Bud also coached many sports, including football, volleyball and girls' golf. He was the founder of the Kamiak High School STEM club. The sheer size of Bud's heart allowed him to be an amazingly loving and devoted husband, father, friend and educator. For Mr. Davis' students and all who knew him, he was a source of encouragement, compassion without bounds and dedication. He believed in ALL students and athletes; they felt his love, inspiration and tireless patience.

We are proud to announce the names of the Class of 2020 students enlisting in the United States Military

Jonathan Perez, US Marine Corps Parker Murdock, US Marine Corps Brandon Tibbits, US Marine Corps Keenan Knisley, US Navy

Enlisting in the United States military is obviously very different than applying for any other job. Not everyone will qualify, and there are strict rules which would never apply to civilian employment. Congress and the courts have held that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which ensures all individuals are treated equally before the law with respect to civilian employment, does not apply to the military profession. The military doesn't accept just anyone who wants to join. In order to enlist, you must be qualified under current federal laws and regulations or have an appropriate waiver. There are age, citizenship, physical, education, height/weight, criminal record, medical, and drug history standards that can exclude you from joining the military. Generally speaking, you must be a high school graduate, have earned a GED or have met other high school equivalency requirements to enlist. To become an Officer, you must have received a four-year BS or BA degree from an accredited university and have strong grades.

AWARDED APPOINTMENT TO THE UNITED STATES MILITARY ACADEMY AT WEST POINT

Jungmin Hwang Martin Park

West Point is one of the oldest service academies in the world, founded in 1802. Currently, it has an acceptance rate of only 10 percent. 18
