Padma Awards 2019 – List of Winners Free Current Affairs e-book Padma Awards 2019 – Complete List of Awardees President of India Sri Ram Nath Kovind announced the Padma Awards 2019, one of the highest civilian awards of the country, on 25th January 2019 through a press release. Padma Awards are conferred in three categories namely Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The Padma Awards are given in various disciplines/fields of activities such as Art, Social Work, Public Affairs, Science and Engineering, Trade and Industry, Medicine, Literature and Education, Sports, Civil Services etc. This year i.e. for 2019 the President of India has approved conferment of 112 Padma Awards. The list comprises of 4 Padma Vibhushan, 14 Padma Bhushan and 94 Padma Shri Awards. 21 of the awardees are women and the list also include 11 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI, 3 Posthumous awardees and 1 transgender person. Padma Awards Padma Awards, which were instituted in the year 1954, are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day. The award is given in three categories - 1. Padma Vibhushan for exceptional and distinguished service 2. Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of a high order 3. Padma Shri for distinguished service. The award seeks to recognize works of distinction and is given for distinguished and exceptional achievements/service in all fields of activities/disciplines. This year, world renowned musician legend Dr. KJ Yesudas celebrates 50 years in the music industry, Varnakairali pays tribute to the legend himself in this edition. K. J. Yesudas was born in Cochin, on 10th January 1940 to Latin Catholic parents Augustine Joseph and Alice kutty. Jesudas has recorded more than 50,000 songs in various languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Oriya, Marathi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tulu, Malay, Russian, Arabic, Latin and English during a career spanning five decade. He sings Indian classical, devotional, and pop music songs. His singing prowess earned him the India`s National Award for the Best Male Playback Singer seven times (the most by any Indian singer), and the State Award for the Best Playback Singer 43 times which comprises of awards by the State Governments of Kerala(23), Tamil Nadu(8), Andhra Pradesh(6), Karnataka(5), and West Bengal(1). He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1975, followed by the Padma Bhushan in 2002 by the Indian Government for his contributions towards the art. He was awarded Swathi Sangeetha Puraskaram in 2011, the highest music award given by the Kerala Government. After winning the Kerala State Award for Best Playback singer on numerous occasions, he requested to be ruled out of contention to give his peers and newcomers a chance of winning the award. Despite his humble request, he was still given this award several times in the following years.
