EVENT REPORT

SPIC MACAY is a voluntary youth movement which promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian classical music, classical dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture. Its intention is to enrich the quality of formal education by increasing awareness about different aspects of Indian heritage and inspiring the young mind to imbibe the values embedded in it. G.D.Goenka Public School Sarita Vihar has been privileged to be in collaboration with the SpicmacayOrganisation since 2017. G.D.Goenka Public School Sarita Vihar belongs to the school of thought that where academics supports a child in his literarygrowth, he should also enculcate respect and knowledge for all cultural aspects and heritage of the society in which we live. Swami Vivekananda once asked Swami Ramakrishna how could he see God. Swami Ramakrishna replied that experience (anubhav) was one of the greatest aspects of life. It is through this that one can have a glimpse of the Almighty. Looking at the current COVID-19 crisisSpicmacay this year made an effort to virtually connect the teenagers and the youth with the best of classical music, dance and other art forms along with providing them with a special creative experience. This special series of ‘SPIC MACAY ANUBHAV’ was conducted from 01 June – June 07, 2020 and was streamed live on their YOUTUBE Channel. Sitting at home yet experiencing the vibes of an ashram like regime, the adolescents and youth got an opportunity to connect with some of the greatest Gurus through various activities like Classical Music and Dance, Intensive workshops, Talks, Hatha Yoga, Theater, A Cinema Classic and Folk Art and Craft. All this helped the young in understanding and establishing a deep chord with Indian Cultural heritage. SPIC MACAY ‘ANUBHAV 2020’ event, gave me an opportunity to experience a new world of culture and heritage. This annual convention which was conducted online for the first time in history, received huge response and was a great learning experience in itself. Our days started with a session of ‘Naad Yoga’ at 4am every morning, where we relaxed our body and mind and understood its significance. After a break for an hour, a four hour-long intensive workshop of every student’s specific interest began. My workshop of Kathak classical dance, constituted of an hour-long live interaction with various Kathak gurussuch as Pt. Rajendra Gangani, Smt. Rani Khanam, Smt. Geetanjali Lal, Smt.Saswati Sen and many more. This was followed by a three hour session with Smt.Moumala Nayak; who gave us lessons on deeper understanding of Kathak as an art form. The afternoon sessions after lunch were devoted tovariety of programmes not limited to music and dance but also theatre, choir music, folk music and dance, puppetry etc. The evenings were devoted to classical music and dance performances. Throughout this week long event, we had to follow a particular holistic diet as well.An extremely memorable experience, I wholly enjoyed SPIC MACAY ANUBHAV 2020! Paridhi Khanduri XII B I thoroughly enjoyed all the activities conducted duringSPICMACAY. I learned many things, especially how to make mural paintings. It was quite a good experience for me and I hope that I can do it again in future as it was informative. Areeba Hassan

I recently participated in a seven day ‘ANUBHAV’ workshop which was held online by SPICAMACY from 01 June to 07 June, 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic situation. I must say that it was a really great and successful initiative taken by SPICAMACY. After the inauguration on the first day, we started with various activities. Each day was an experience in itself. We practiced yoga and were asked to follow a specific diet chart. I learnt Mural Art which was taught by Guru of Mural Art Painting 'SRI K.R. BABU'. It was quite an amazing experience. We watched perform and heard about her struggle. We also got to know a lot about other Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and artists like Shri Gulam Mohammed Sheik, Dr. L. Subramaniam, Guru to name a few. Overall it was an enthralling experience. Highlights of the Event
