Boy Bands to Invade Duquoin State Fair For Immediate Release: Contacts: April 30, 2018 Rebecca Clark (217) 558-1546 Morgan Booth (217) 785-5485 BOY BANDS TO INVADE DUQUOIN STATE FAIR O-Town, Aaron Carter, Ryan Cabrera, and Tyler Hilton join Pop2K Tour Four Bands, Two Hours of Music, One Low Ticket Price Du Quoin, IL – The 2000’s were an iconic time for many, it was the dawn of reality tv, flip phones, myspace, and frosted tips/chunky highlights. Music was also a defining aspect of that decade. Some of the hitmakers of that era will be performing on the Du Quoin State Fair grandstand stage on Thursday, August 30 as part of the Pop2K tour. O-Town’s success began in 1999 on the television reality show “Making the Band.” The band garnered hits such as “All or Nothing” and “Liquid Dreams” during the three seasons they were on the show. In 2014, the band reunited to make new music. They’ve started on their fourth album and the first single of it, “Empty Space” is sure to be a hit. Aaron Carter was a teenage heartthrob in the 2000’s, known for his catchy pop songs off his three multi-platinum albums. He also adds actor to his impressive resume, starring in shows/movies such as “Lizzie McGuire,” “7th Heaven,” and “Supercross.” Carter comes from a highly talented musical family; he is the little brother to Nick Carter, of Backstreet Boys fame. Ryan Cabrera is known for hits such as “On the Way Down,” “True,” and “Shine On,” but his fans are sure to love his new music too. Critics say his fifth album, Wake Up Beautiful, has an organic pop feel. “House on Fire” and “All We Have” are two of the songs on the album that really shows that he doesn’t hold anything back. Tyler Hilton’s music inspiration comes from the likes of Frank Sinatra, Robert Johnson, and Elvis Presley (who he got to play in the 2005 hit movie “Walk the Line”). In 2000, he moved to (-more-) Du Quoin State Fair August 24 – September 3 www.duquoinstatefair.net POP2K/2222 Los Angeles to pursue his passion for music, but also dabbled in acting. In addition to “Walk the Line,” Hilton also appeared on “One Tree Hill” and acted in music videos for Taylor Swift and Gloriana. He’s come a long way since he first started writing songs and believes his new album is his best yet. “We strive to have a diverse grandstand line-up each year, and I think adding the Pop2K tour to our already announced acts gives a little something for everyone, whether you like pop, rock, or country,” said Assistant State Fair Manager Tibretta Reiman. Back by popular demand, Dueling Pianos International will take over the Grandstand on Monday, August 27th. This is sure to be a fun filled night as world class dueling piano players entertain fairgoers with a dynamic performance. The show is known for being fun, comedic, and interactive for a show all ages will love. This Grandstand performance is included with the cost of admission with General Admission seating the night of the show. In an effort to introduce a new audience to the thrill and excitement of horse racing, the DuQuoin State Fair will re-introduce Twilight Harness Racing at the Grandstand on Wednesday, August 29th. Harness racing is an essential component of the fair. DuQuoin’s oval track has been home to some of the state’s greatest horse races, including the Hambletonian and World Trotting Derby. “The first night horse show in Du Quoin took place in 1924 under newly installed electric lights,” said State Fair Manager Luke Sailer. “As a new generation of fairgoers enter the fairgrounds gates, Twilight Racing serves as a great way to showcase Illinois agriculture and celebrate our state fair history.” The 2018 Du Quoin State Fair will have two days of harness racing. Tuesday, August 28th will have an 11am post-time; meanwhile, Twilight Harness Racing on Wednesday, August 29th will kick off with a 6pm post time. Ticket prices have been announced for the already announced 2018 Grandstand concerts. An on- sale date has not yet been announced. (2006). Qualitative investigation of young children's music preferences. International Journal of Education & the Arts, 7(9). Retrieved [date] from http://ijea.asu.edu/v7n9/. Abstract This qualitative study examined young children’s music preferences through group conversations with children, interviews with parents, and non- participant observation of classroom settings in daycare and elementary classrooms. Data were analyzed inductively to generate themes, and revealed that (1) children expressed distinct preferences for an eclectic range of music from very early ages; (2) rock and popular music were frequently mentioned as preferred styles by parents and children, with movie and television soundtracks high in popularity; (3) music listening was characterized by a reliance on diverse technologies, with listening inextricably interwoven with viewing; and (4) music listening and experiences in the home described by children and parents varied considerably from what was offered in the school and daycare settings. Findings from this study contribute to an understanding of young children’s music preferences and listening habits in contemporary Western society. International Journal of Education & the Arts Vol. 7 No. 9 2 Introduction The week’s theme in the older toddlers’ room at the daycare center was “The Zoo.” Decorated with pictures of camels, monkeys and gorillas, along with stuffed animals and puppets, the spacious room displayed a large sign proclaiming, “Welcome to the Pearson1 Zoo.

  • Naperville Jaycees Announce *NSYNC's Lance Bass to Host the POP 2000 Tour at the Last Fling on Friday, August 31, 2018
For Immediate Release May 8, 2018 Contact: Alex Anderson 773-677-0769 [email protected] Naperville Jaycees Announce *NSYNC’s Lance Bass to Host the POP 2000 Tour at the Last Fling on Friday, August 31, 2018 The Naperville Jaycees is proud to announce *NSYNC’s Lance Bass will host a lineup of boybands for the POP 2000 Tour at the Last Fling on Friday, August 31, 2018. This family-friendly tour will feature O- Town, Aaron Carter, Ryan Cabrera and Tyler Hilton from One Tree Hill. Lance Bass is the quintessential illustration of a highly successful and driven jack-of-all-trades: singer, host, actor, producer, writer, entrepreneur, philanthropist and cosmonaut. Beyond his fame as a member of the phenomenally successful group *NSYNC, where the group sold an impressive 60 million plus records worldwide, Bass has made himself a household name throughout the globe. He is the perfect host for the POP 2000 Tour, which will allow the Naperville Jaycees’ Last Fling audience to relive their boy- band memories from the early 2000’s. O-Town O-Town’s story began in 1999, when “Making the Band” (produced in conjunction with the creator of both the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC) chronicled the creation, development, and rise to success of O-Town throughout three seasons of the series. The group became the first to be signed by Clive Davis to his label, J Records, and released two full-length albums, which included #1 singles, “Liquid Dreams” and “All or Nothing.” The latter of which was nominated for Song of the Year at the Radio Music Awards in 2001.

  • Oh, Aaron. There Are a Lot of Ways to Find Inner Peace- Some Take Long
Oh, Aaron. There are a lot of ways to find inner peace- some take long walks, some journal or paint, some do yoga or drugs, and some turn to their faith. And then there's music. Music, as the English playwright William Congreve once said, has charms to soothe the savage breast. Last Thursday, I didn't really know what to expect when I arrived at a Des Moines bar to see Aaron Carter in concert, but I would never have anticipated that I would leave feeling as if I had been saved. Then again, AC works in mysterious ways. Like a lot of pop stars who topped charts before they reached puberty, Aaron Carter's story is shrouded in a past Dr. Phil might call "troubled" and I would call "fucked up." Aaron began his career at the tender age of seven, and by the time his second album went platinum, Aaron Carter had become an international sensation, touring with Britney and plastering the walls of tween girls before he even finished middle school. Though a child sensations' dismal fall from stardom seems practically a rite of passage by now, Aaron's strikes you as being exceptionally tragic. He sued corrupt music impresario Lou Perlman for royalties, and had his career and his adolescence fiercely micromanaged by his mother Jane, who went on to pocket an unfair share of Aaron's earnings and sell him out to tabloids. Not surprisingly, Aaron filed for emancipation when he was 16. Reports swirled around his friendship with Michael Jackson, drug-related arrests, and substance abuse.

  • Chris Reynolds: This Is an Interview with Charlie Harmony on Thursday
Charlie Harmony Memoir Springfield, Illinois October 9, 2006 Chris Reynolds: This is an interview with Charlie Harmony on Thursday. November the 9th, 2006 at Dean Williams Studio in Springfield, Illinois which oddly enough is on Harmony Court. We’re working on an oral history on the Harmony Brother’s musical career. My name is Chris Reynolds; the taping is being done by Dean Williams, and let’s just go ahead and get started here. Charlie, I want to do this in time frames, so the first time frame I want to work on is the pre-1956, before the band got started. But I want to start out with a question that I really failed to ask Ben which was can we talk a little bit about your family? How many brothers and sisters you had and what your mom and dad did and those kinds of things ? Charlie Harmony: Sure, there were eight of us in the family, four boys and four girls. My dad was a coal miner; my mom was a housewife, as was the case in those days. Of course she had eight kids to raise so she had quite a job. They were all like Ben and I, wild and crazy so she really had her work cut out for her. Chris: And you lived in Springfield at that same home over there? Where, near Ben is now? Charlie: Right in front of where Ben’s house was, the house in front of it is the family home. Chris: And the whole time you lived there, so that goes way back? Charlie: Yes, the house was built in 1940, the year that I was born, I was the first child to live in that house, prior to that, behind the house there was a little two room shack and that is where all of my family and the other six kids were born, Ben was born there, I was the only one born in a hospital.
