WELCOME TO IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH AND SCHOOL!

Welcome in the name of the Lord! Please sit in the marked pews. Maintain six feet of distance from all non-family members. Please wear a mask.

To Our Guests: If this is your first time visiting a Lutheran church, you may find the worship service to be different from that of other churches. Our Liturgy, or Divine Service, follows closely the pattern of Word and Lord’s Supper handed down from the ancient Church. It is our hope that, through prayer and study, you will make the Church’s life of prayer your own. Please let us know your prayer requests, and any other way we can be of service to you.

About Receiving Holy Communion: Today we celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper in which we joyfully receive Christ’s Body and Blood, under bread and wine, for the forgiveness of our sins. As we celebrate the Sacrament we also give public confession to our unity in the Christian Faith (1 Cor. 10). Members in good standing of congregations of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod are asked to announce themselves to an usher or one of our Pastors prior to the service before communing. All others are invited to speak with one of our Pastors about preparing for communion fellowship with the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Those not communing are invited to come forward for a blessing.

Salutation and Collect of the Day

P Almighty God the Father, through Your only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, You have overcome death and opened the gate of everlasting life to us. Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of our Lord’s resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by Your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Sit Old Testament Reading Job 19:23–27 (Job prophesies the resurrection) “Oh that my words were written! Oh that they were inscribed in a book! Oh that with an iron pen and lead they were engraved in the rock forever! For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. My heart faints within me!”

A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God.

Gradual T This is the day that the | LORD has made;* let us rejoice and be | glad in it-. C Oh give thanks to the LORD, for | he is good;* for his steadfast love en- | dures forever! (Psalm 118:24, 1)

Epistle 1 Corinthians 5:6–8 (Christ our Passover Lamb) Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Let us therefore celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God.

Stand and face the processional crucifix. Christians, to the Paschal Victim (sung by Choir & Congregation as indicated) LSB 460

The Gospel is chanted according to Reformation custom. Holy Gospel Mark 16:1–8 (He is risen!) P The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the sixteenth chapter.

And when the sabbath was past, , and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you. And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid. (KJV)

P This is the Gospel of the Lord.

Nicene Creed (Sung on one tone throughout; bow at the text enclosed by ❖) C I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven ❖ and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; ❖ and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, ❖ who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, ❖ who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life T of the world to come. Amen.

5 Here our true Paschal Lamb we see, 6 So let us keep the festival Whom God so freely gave us; To which the Lord invites us; He died on the accursèd tree— Christ is Himself the joy of all, So strong His love—to save us. The sun that warms and lights us. See, His blood now marks our door; Now His grace to us imparts Faith points to it; death passes o’er, Eternal sunshine to our hearts; And Satan cannot harm us. The night of sin is ended. Alleluia! Alleluia!

Stand Prayer of the Church

Service of the Sacrament Preface LSB 194

P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God. And most especially are we bound to praise You on this day for the glorious resurrection of Your Son, Jesus Christ, the very Paschal Lamb, who was sacrificed for us and bore the sins of the world. By His dying He has destroyed death, and by His rising again He has restored to us everlasting life. Therefore with Mary Magdalene, Peter and John, and with all the witnesses of the resurrection, with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:
