Race Walking Record – February 2017

The 2018 Organizing Committee has announced course details for the race walks, the cycling time trials and the cycling road races. All events will be held on the Carrumbin beachfront, just south of Surfers Paradise and within the Gold Coast City council region. The 20km walks will be held on a 1km loop along th Council Carrumbin Esplanade on Sunday 8 April 2018. 6th Feb: Russia to remain suspended for World Championships Russia will miss this summer’s World Championships after the IAAF voted to extend their suspension from international competition for state-sponsored doping. However, some Russian athletes may be able to compete under a neutral banner, if they can satisfy testing criteria. Russia was suspended by the IAAF in Novmber 2015 and is not expected to be fully reinstated until November 2017. Transfer of Allegiance: Following a proposal by Sebastian Coe, The IAAF Council has frozen all new transfers of allegiance in athletics with immediate effect. A working group, set up to study the subject area, will submit proposals for new rules as a matter of urgency and no later than the end of this year. Sebastian Coe commented: “It has become abundantly clear with regular multiple transfers of athletes especially from Africa that the present rules are no longer fit for purpose. Athletics, which at its highest levels of competition is a championship sport based upon national teams, is particularly vulnerable in this respect. Furthermore, the present rules do not offer the protections necessary to the individual athletes involved and are open to abuse.” International Judging Appointments 2017 Bidding Process – IAAF Series: Council approved a Steve Taylor proposal made by Sebastian Coe to no longer continue with the formal bidding process by which the IAAF has traditionally attracted Chief Judge IAAF World Championships (GBR) applications to host IAAF World Athletics Series competitions, Chief Judge European U23 Championships Bydgoszcz (POL) including the IAAF World Championships.
